2027 Asian Cup

You do realise Bos is probably out of the Asian Cup.
If Bos is out id probably play Metcalfe as the LWB. Especially with the glut of Inside forwards we now have with Volpato in and McGree hopefully fit by then, together with Irankunda and Hrustic.

He played there a bit for St Pauli. Right in front of me Hannover away once and didn't seem fazed. The runs from the deep and space to pass and move are good for him.

Elder should come into contention, would be great if K Bos had a strong year. But Behich performed at the WC and is a walk up start at the moment.

The two main proviso with Behich are that 1) He doesn't retire from international football and 2) Age doesn't quickly catch up with him as it does to a lot of players.

Well.. he's definitely not going to be at the next World Cup. But surely age doesn't catch up within the next 6 months

I hope not but I've seen it happen to sportsmen now and then. If Bos's injury is severe enough to keep him out for 6 months or more we may need him.

I think it's a good opportunity to look for a longer term debuty to Bos. Silvera and Elder appeal to me. Silvera because of his flexibility and Elder because of his set pieces.

Really hope everyone is fit and that Popa lets loose the shackles for this one. We have a squad capable of competing for the title. Here is my way too early squad:

Beach
Ryan
Izzo

Circati
Souttar
Herrington
Burgess
Leonard
Trewin
Italiano
Miller
Bos
Behich

O'Neill
Okon-Engstler
Irvine
Robertson
Yazbek

Volpato
Irankunda
Metcalfe
McGree
Younis

Toure
T.Yengi
Jovanovic

Wonder if Behich makes the squad at 36? If not who is the heir apparent?
Elder
K. Bos
Farrell
Mauragis
Lino
Rowles
Iredale
Overy
Any others?
Aziz Behich might make the Socceroos playing list for the 2027 Asian Cup but it'll most likely be his last major tournament cycle for us and if he doesn't get picked altogether then you'd think Kye Rowles would be the frontrunner to replace him.

No way in hell Rowles will be played wing back and in the event he was, that would be super defensive even by Popa's standards

Will go full Popa-apoplectic again if Rowles is the only backup. Rate K.Bos as pretty good bombing forward but not convinced defensively, Elder or Farrell would be my first choices if actually fit. Mauragis next in line, Lino if future upside in mind and or Overy who can also cover RWB.

I'd say wait and see how Callum Elder runs for Lincoln City over the first half of season 2026-27 and if Kasey Bos can also have a productive loan period at Excelsior then he could well be in contention as another replacement for Behich.

If fit it needs to be Farrell, Mauragis shouldn't be in contention, poor defender, great runner, poor crosser.
