2026 World Cup Squad

Do we call them "Popa's Babes" as the average age of our squad is an unprecedented low 26 years. The 'Babes' are Nestory Irankunda, 20, and Mo Toure, 21, both the kind of dynamic forwards that Socceroos fans have long dreamed about. Behind them comes Alessandro Circati, 22, a current Serie A star in the heart of defence, plus Paul Okon jnr, a 21-year-old chip off the old block, while, overlapping on the left, there’s Jordan Bos at only 23.
One of my mates LFC, DC or Grazor will be able to tell me if any of these youngsters will be given the chance to slip on the green & gold.
Probably all of them will play, volpato and herrington also very young

Squad Average Age: 26.88.

Though, we are considered a "young squad", relative to other countries at the WC, we are pretty standard. We honestly could've been one of the youngest teams even with a straight swap of Leckie for McGree, definitely a few older players bring the average up quite a bit. It just goes to show, we've had pretty old teams in the past to the point that this team feels very young relatively, when it's pretty normal.

My proposed best XI/starting lineup average age is: 24.18 years old which is considerably less than the squad average age. It makes sense, as our coaches value experience to backup our talent which will usually be starting.

XI: (Average Age: 24.18)
Ryan
Bos
Herrington
Souttar
Circati
Italiano
Irvine
Okon-Engstler
Irankunda
Volpato
Toure

Yeah the squad age isn't outside the norm, but the likely involvement of the young guys will be much greater.

We have the second youngest playing list in our group and are 32nd overall in terms of average age but definitely agree that our youth prospects are going to have an impact throughout our World Cup campaign and beyond.

Onya Richie !
Babes Pups hey what of Popcicles ?!
Leave it with you guys.
Luv the boxing Roo and that time was epic remember it well !
I think it should be for all our NT teams such sign of strength muscle.

I’m starting to get Bozza excited/charged as it nears.

To be as excited as Bozza you will need to be taking some pingers or Bolivian Marching Powder.

Like LFC I am getting excited the closer we get the WC.I will get up to watch Mexico v South Africa on Friday morning and then as many games as I can.
If the Socceroos fail to get out of their group( God forbid) will they be known as the Poppycockers!

New Socceroos midfielder Paul Okon JR has one up on his father, Australia’s assistant coach Paul Okon SR, he will play a WC whereas his old man was never given the chance. Widely regarded as one of Australia’s greatest players, Okon Sr’s final appearance of his 12-year Socceroos career was in 2003, meaning he wasn’t part of Australia’s return to the World Cup in 2006 after an absence of 32 years.

He was one special player, Paul Okon Sr, still remember him driving the team around in a game against Ghana in Sydney, amazing player.
