Was interested to look at the squad composition from 2006 to now in terms of World Cup experience. What is it with the number 17 and first-timers? Also, does anyone want to have an early stab at what the 2030 breakdown will be…

2x 4 timers in 2018 and 2026?? Wow

Leckie I was a bit baffled with his selection but my mind has been changed after the drops. Was not expecting Popo to drop Boyle, very harsh but I think it's necessary, he just hasn't delivered. I was much more upset with leckie's inclusion when I thought him, boyle and borello were all gonna be making the squad lol.

Leckie I hope is here for his world cup experience. Three campaigns, a knockout appearance. Having that sort of knowledge in the squad is HUGE. Him being in the squad for that I am happy enough with.

Yeah I was fairly disappointed with the Boyle omission initially. I think on ability and talent alone, he is better than Mabil, Leckie and Nish however clearly this is a decision that Popa has made as Boyle just does not suit his system. Those aforementioned players are all capable and have history playing in those central attacking positions whereas for Boyle it's rarely been done. He operates more as a winger or second striker. For that reason alone, Yengi is even more useful in this system than Boyle. Boyle's only look in for this team would have been as a back-up to Toure but Yengi fits the profile more I'd say.

Pretty sad for him, but I guess it is what it is.
