2026 World Cup Squad

SBS asking whether Mo Toure will make the world cup squad. The idiots behind their socials aren't even serious anymore.
They really lost all their football IP when they opted out of the sport. I hope they rebuild that and get better than what they are now.
Yeah there’s bigger questions to ask than will he play for us at the World Cup. I’d ask “how long till he goes to the Prem?”.

I've using the full 55 man squad due may 11 - Redmayne is included in case of an injury to Ryan before the final 26. Not happy to take 3 youngsters if Ryan is injured but I don't expect him to make the squad otherwise. Beach moved to the extras. I've include Volpato purely because his statements were made before Italy fell out and he may have changed his mind (unlikely but possible).

I think Tete Yengi is now a must for Kennedy 2006 style. Late in games with a massive frame and dangerous on set plays.
that game plan required having wingers with a strong enough defensive game to go to a back three. Basically it relied on the massive engines of chipperfield and emerton who could for a lung bursting period of 15 minutes cover two positions - wide centerback and extra wingers to create overloads. Those wingers had to be so fit that they could be in two places at once - creating overloads on the wings with their wingers (usually breciano and kewell) so that you can have 3 strikers in the box (usually aloisi viduka and kennedy)

It was a solution to the fact we lacked creativity in the midfield but had an abundance of wide players with big engines and good defensive games and an abundance of quality strikers. Wish he did it against italy because it was tough to defend against

Am I correct that he's just scored 2 goals this season across 11 matches for Zelvia?
Tete Yengi has only scored the one goal for Machida Zelvia this year through nine matches at domestic level but in AFC Champions League Elite he's scored three goals in six matches which equates to a goal every two games.

Younis must go to the camp at the very least. I don't trust Popovic to pick him when he shows Boyle up.
part of me wonders if boyle is kept as a specialist pen taker given our other options aren't great (thoguh irankunda shows potential but might be a bit young for poppa to trust to take a pen on the world cup stage)

a quarter of our world cup goals have been pentalties and we can't afford to miss one. Poppa might feel it is worth having a slightly weaker xi to have a reliable pen taker

mind you in camp you can find your most mentally strong player and develop their penalty taking. I'd like to see circati or souttar given they have both shown a lot of mental strength over the years

I think that's a fair point about Boyle but I'd hate to think we're pinning our hopes on his penalties. I felt he was alright against Cameroon with good runs, movement and passing.

It's our slow midfield that is the issue and if we can get Robertson playing and some urgency we'll look much better.

I'd like Jovanovic to be invited to the camp but we know realistically he'll get a maximum of 4 mins at the end of we're losing. Such players aren't seen as ones to get extended time or have a big effect.
