I'd say Martin Boyle and Awer Mabil, with Marcus Younis a close third. If you could only take two of Velupillay, Younis, Boyle and Mabil, who are you taking?
Granted, I think Popa will take three of them.
Interesting, I may be in the minority butI'd say Martin Boyle and Awer Mabil, with Marcus Younis a close third.
I don't know why Souttar is considered a "lock". He's barely played any football the past 6 months at least and only made Leicester's squad very recently.
I think Harry Souttar is considered a lock because of his experience with the Socceroos in previous World Cup cycles but we still need to wait and see how he runs after such a long period out with injury before deciding whether he goes on the plane or not.I don't know why Souttar is considered a "lock". Nice list. Would add Arena as a smoky. So who are the smokies for the World Cup Squad? There's alway's one or two.
I see these as two types. Injury returns and strong late form. I'll add another category, the consistently over-looked and under-appreciated.
Some options for each category.
Injury returns: Souttar, Silvera, C. Goodwin, Luongo, Leonard
Late form surge: Younis, Scicluna, A. Goodwin
Overlooked: Sapsford, Bennie, Nisbet.
Who would you add? Who would you pick?

Would be happy with thatNice list. Would add Arena as a smoky.
From those names, Souttar, Bennie and Arena for me.
One thing i know for sure is Younis is clearly more skillful on the ball than Boyle at this moment. He will be very handy as our super sub on the wing.Interesting, I may be in the minority but
I would choose Mabil and Younis, Velupillay a close third and Boyle missing out.
constructive fair point - also doesn't get pushed off the ball and on the ground as much. One thing i know for sure is Younis is clearly more skillful on the ball than Boyle at this moment. He will be very handy as our super sub on the wing.
Boyle past his used by date.constructive fair point - also doesn't get pushed off the ball and on the ground as much.
Look Boyle just shouldn't even be on the short list anymore as far as I'm concerned.
Really?? Did you have to go there.Gone off the boyle....
have you finally or you still got that emotional attach to him ?Gone off the boyle....
He hobbles off his crutches, coming on as an injury time sub and he limps around the penalty box only for a stray ball to smash the back of his head past the keepers desperate dive to send australia into the knockoutshave you finally or you still got that emotional attach to him ?![]()
Martin Boyle has had good form for Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership this season though and would also be at his first major tournament for the Socceroos after missing the last two cycles through injury.Look Boyle just shouldn't even be on the short list anymore as far as I'm concerned.
3 goals from open play in 1700 minutes seems a big drop in form to be honestMartin Boyle has had good form for Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership this season though and would also be at his first major tournament for the Socceroos after missing the last two cycles through injury.
