2026 World Cup Squad

I like all the guys but if we cut Degenek and Rowles that still means Geria and Elder can play wing back or centre back in an emergency. In turn we can add a midfielder and a proper right wing back.
I totally agree. I think we could easily pick less defenders but I doubt Popovic will.

Is there a reason why Mabil isn't being talked about much as a potential bolter? He's getting a lot of game time for a club towards the top of the Segunda and I think he'd be worth another look in March.
I'd say mostly because we have better options atm. Despite Mabils game time he isn't scoring prolifically either. The club level isn't the highest.

Handy player I think but still on the outer compared to other options.

Yeah fair enough. I'm not saying he's a shoe in or anything, but he's got a stronger case than D'Agostino, Al Hassan Toure and Milanovic who have all been picked for squads within the last 6 months. I do think he might be worth another look, particularly as he's always played fairly well for the Roos in my view.

Taggart is a fine finisher at times. Issue is he won't get those opportunities in international games unlike the A League and when he does he scuffs them. Someone like D'Agostino really should be considered.

Brook is in some good form and should be short listed for the end cycle at least.

What I find interesting is a lot of these guys don't excite us on paper but they're still pros and professionals who would give it a good go if played. I hate the complacency some regulars have.

DeVere and Dellbridge were maybe one hit wonders for Australia but they were professional in their matches.

It's going to be special seeing our 3 "S"s come on as super subs in Seattle to smash the USA. Hope they keep up the scoring form, cos they're banging 'em in right now.
Talking about Segecic, Sapsford, Silvera. Huge improvement from Sam recently. If he keeps on this track he needs to be in the squad. Same with the other 2.

Let's see if I can make a 26 man squad. I'll highlight my choices in bold. I'll go one extra CM, one extra inside forward and 1 extra striker. I'll also put a player in brackets in the (unforuntely) highly likely event Volpato doesn't play

Wouldn't he have been coaching senior footballers when he was a Loan Development Coach at Villa? Or assisting Ange at Spurs and Forest?
I think they're really good experiences. Jedinaks next step is a senior gig somewhere. I don't think the national team is the place for a first time senior coach.
