2026 World Cup Squad

One pleasant phenomenon seems that the English Championship and the American MLS are producing players with a better skill set for the Socceroos than in the past.

The Championship was a hoofball, high ball, second ball league - Pim's words! The MLS was overly physical, with coaches adopting a lot of gridiron practices.

Is the Championship, along with the mid and top ranks of the Dutch, Belgian and Portuguese elite leagues, almost UEFA Big Five in standard?
What do you mean by that? When I see Herrington go from the ALM to the MLS and dominate so early it surely shows the development in the MLS is missing.

All these stats and wagon wheels are great but are they compiled with the opponent and time of match considered?

Of course Okon looked better as the game was opening up. It's understandable Balard was pressured as Colombia started to press more at that time.

In the first 30min Colombia stood back and there were some big open spaces in midfield but we passed it back.

The Championship has certainly improved and is occasionally reminiscent of the EPL 25 years ago. That's maybe more with the directness in play. Ironically people crave the old EPL style as the big league has become slow possession based and the Championship has a bit more go in it.

That's not to say some Championship matches do put you to sleep.

Unlikely at his early stage of development - but have not seen him play club football.

In League 1, the opposition is very different from the calibre of Canada, USA, Venez, Colombia, Cameroon and Curacao, who Aus has played recently though. Particularly tactically.

I have no doubt Robertson will be a very good player in the imminent future for the Roos though. He has awesome technique on the ball.
Robertson is ready to be a starter for the National Team. Robertson is proven Championship quality. He's better than league one and imo would be our best mid. He needs the opportunity.

Championship now emphasises technique to a similar level as the continent but has a higher athletic standard

Championship elo is roughly the same as portugal eredivisie and belgium

Haven't seen it as much recently, but he has used it effectively against some of the slightly weaker Socceroo opponents.

Geria doesn't appear to have the long diagonal pass in his tool kit - like Souttar, Circati and Burgess. Might have seen Herrington play a few too? I'm not sure though?

Not sure I've seen you post before, SM? Welcome to the forum.
Cheers

Is a shame the J-League is going right up until squad selection as I really think T.Yengi's form justifies selection, however with Duke et al. being in camp for nearly 3 weeks, I reckon he will have left his run too late.

I think behind Toure, is our most in form forward.

Circumstances are providing Popovic with convenient excuses. Teti works to chase a game late but also to hold a lead and defend and press.

Okay. All good.

Misunderstood the intent of the post.

Herrington and Circati are better ball players at CB than Burgess. As are Trewin and Rowles.
Trewin I never watched him play as CB but as RB he has been bad. Rowles looks more shaky at the back I d rather have Burgess instead of him.
