2026 UEFA WC Qualification

Bosnia & Herzegovina v Italy

As a reminder, this was using as close to the current squads as possible (some squads have been announced with more than 26, so in those cases I cut players with the least caps) - if there were any players not in game, they were replaced with either players from the extended 26+ squad, the preliminary squad, or the previous squad, provided they weren't injured. Last time around was a "projected" squad, using players who were called up during 2025, sorted by most caps, and ignoring any injuries - and this saw the following results:

Wales 0-0 Italy (Italy 4-3 on Penalties)
Sweden 2-0 Albania
Kosovo 2-2 Turkey (Kosovo 3-2 AET)
Republic of Ireland 0-1 Denmark

This time around:
Bosnia & Herzegovina 1-2 Italy
Ukraine 1-0 Poland
Kosovo 0-0 Turkey (Turkey 1-0 AET)
Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark (Denmark 1-0 AET)

So based off this, I'm predicting Italy and Denmark to go through definitely. Path B seems really up in ther air. But I think that that potential Kosovo v Turkey match could be exciting - was the final both times, and both times went to extra time.
 
I totally gapped the seedings and didn't realise Wales and Slovakia would host the final.

This means we could see Italy against Bosnian in Cardiff? Ukraine using Valencia as a base.

No - it’s whoever wins the game that was randomly drawn as the first team for the second game, will host the final.

So, if Wales win, it will be in Cardiff, if Bosnia win it will be in Zenica

My eyes glanced so quickly I didn't even see a second city listed! Both would be tricky but Italy in Zenica just screams banana skin but Bosnia are good for their own bowing to pressure.
 
Pressure will be on Italy. They have enough good players to make a respectable team but picking Gattuso to coach them was a weird choice.
 
Every loss is humiliating as far as I’m concerned the last 8yrs !
Plus there is history losing to nth Ireland lonnnng ago before !
Double edged sword win this the next one life or death again.
 
Flag up in the end but Romania break the lines and hit the bar from close range. Turkey with reasonable control but Romania easing in like Australia does in a tough playoff.

Turkey blast over a decent chance. Really can't be missing those.
 
Turkey take the lead after latching onto a long ball. 35min to go and Romania are going to have to go hard now.
 
77min and a tight angle shot after a corner hits the post and put for Romania. Damn. Turkey a bit vulnerable here.
 
Turkey win. Romanian were woeful and not worthy while Turkey did just enough to advance. Risky tactics but I guess they felt Romania wouldn't bite them.
 
Hope Ukraine get eliminated tonight. The media is going to look for non football angles regardless but just tired of all the non football snippets and comments made during games.
 
Slovakia with an early 1:0 lead which will be crushing for Kosovo. Heads drop as the ball goes in.
