2026 Hahn Australia Cup

nice update and info NCB - my mind goes batty (WTF) at some Club names haha
Bros Aston Villa ? like wtf.
Hey we got the BITS today - Boyne Island Tannum Sands.
Good story behind that - kind of reminds me of Hanwood/Yoogali a little bit here:

OUR HISTORY

1768885227152.png
Brothers Aston Villa Football Club had its beginnings in Bundaberg in 1967 when Les Davis began coaching the local school children at Welcome Creek State School. The club was initially called Welcome Creek United as most of the players were the sons of sugar cane farmers from the Welcome Creek area near Bundaberg. When the team came to town however they were often belittled as country town “hicks”, so Les, then the club President, proposed a name nobody could ridicule. Being a lifelong Villa supporter, he suggested the club should be called Aston Villa after the famous club in Birmingham. The English club gave their written permission to the Bundaberg club to use their distinctive colours, and the name was adopted in 1969. Since then, hundreds of players have put on their Claret and Blue on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and done their best to make Aston Villa the best club in Bundaberg.

Aston Villa entered its first team in the Senior Bundaberg Soccer competition in the mid-seventies. Villa’s First Division debut came in 1976 and we won our first grand final in 1986, with many other successes in later years. Brothers Aston Villa’s best known junior product is the Sydney FC and Australian representative goalkeeper Clint Bolton. Our most recent major achievement is winning the Division One Men’s Three Cities League Championship in 2015.

Round 1 & Round 2 for the 2026 Hahn Australia Cup in Victoria is scheduled next Tuesday Night at 7.00pm AEDT.

Non-State Leagues teams include:

Ballarat
Bacchus Marsh
Ballarat SC
Ballarat North United

Bendigo
Latrobe University
Shepparton United
Spring Gully United
Strathdale
Castlemaine Goldfields (also play or have recently Metropolitan)
Golden City

Latrobe Valley
Sale United

Gippsland
Phillip Island

South-West
Warrnambool Rangers

Metropolitan
Truganina Lions
Fitzroy Lions
St Albans Gospic Bears
Swinburne

I'm probably missing some that NicCarBel can fill in (and give the complete ins and outs recap); Maryborough SC made a big deal out of them entering the cup last year but haven't this year; Myrtleford Savoy are another regional team that haven't entered - maybe because of Murray United entering SL7

Yep, covers a lot of it - I'm going to break it down a little different to how I did Queensland (as Queensland is the only state that regionalises the preliminary rounds, so that was already sorted in the draw, so that's going to be an additional part of this breakdown)

Clubs who are taking part for the first time since at least 2023 (or ever):
  1. Croydon Ranges (might need some info on this, as I see there is also Croydon City Arrows that have been competing in State League 4, but appear to be a different club. I don't have Ranges in the database until now..)
  2. Truganina Lions (same as above - Truganina Hornets and Truganina Hornets are clearly separate clubs - the database has no info on Lions, now noting on research they were founded in 2022)
  3. Dynamo Melbourne (formerly known as Dynamo Victoria)
  4. Fitzroy Lions
  5. Murray United
  6. Phillip Island Breakers
  7. Resevoir United (formerly known as Kingsbury United)
  8. Strathdale
Clubs taking part after a hiatus/not entering in 2025:
  1. Albert Park
  2. Endeavour Hills
  3. Shepparton United
  4. Spring Gully United
  5. St Albans Gospic Bears
Clubs listed as taking part last year, and not this year (2025 League is listed - But also, please let me know if I've included any that are part of the SL2 clubs for 2026 - I haven't noted them in the database yet - and am aware they will be entered into the next round):
  1. 2025 State League 4 clubs:
    1. Croydon City Arrows (see above)
    2. Manningham Juventus (formerly known as Marcellin Old Collegians)
    3. Waverley Wanderers
    4. Fawkner
    5. Plenty Valley Lions
    6. Endeavour United
    7. Hampton Park United Sparrows
    8. Balmoral FC Derzelez
    9. Surf Coast
  2. 2025 State League 5 clubs:
    1. Barton United
    2. Casey Panthers
    3. Lara United
    4. Tarneit United
  3. Albury-Wodonga
    1. Myrtleford Savoy
  4. Ballarat
    1. Maryborough
  5. Bendigo
    1. Epsom
    2. La Trobe University (there are two La Trobe University Soccer Clubs in Victoria - one based in Melbourne, and one based in Bendigo. Both entered last year, but there is only one listed entry this year, and no location is attached to it - so I have currently attributed this entry to the Melbourne club)
  6. Geelong
    1. Colac Otway Rovers
  7. Metropolitan
    1. Middle Park
    2. Hoppers Crossing
    3. Bundoora United
Based off the fact that FV are toting that there are 6 more entrants than last year (or that might have been a tagline from Brenton?), I would assume with maths (21 clubs not listed, and 13 new additions to this year, meaning 8 clubs variance), that 2 of the above actually are taking part (and are probably in State League 3 this year?)

Balmoral, Fawkner, Endeavour United, Croydon City, Manningham Juventus, Middle Park, Plenty Valley Lions, Hampton Park, Hoppers Crossing, Bundoora United - all in State 3.
Surf Coast and Waverley City/Wanderers (I'm not sure, they've changed their AEK-inspired badge) - are in State 2.
Lara United and Casey Panthers are both included in the draw.

Additional Edit: There are both La Trobe clubs (Melbourne and Bendigo) in the draw - may have missed it as one is listed as Latrobe University, and one as La Trobe University

ah yes, thank you! My alphabetisation system must have combined the two

So, if all is that is correct (considering I seemed to have rushed this a bit), assuming all those State 2 and 3 clubs are entered (which it appears they are), this is the list of clubs that have not entered this year, but entered last year.

Is the number of teams involved growing each year?

Is the number of teams involved growing each year?
Depends on the state.

I think in NSW its declining.
I haven’t found/worked out that state breakdowns, but I guess we are down overall. These are the entrants each year since inception (including the cancelled 2020 edition):

2014 - 631
2015 - 648
2016 - 704
2017 - 735
2018 - 781
2019 - 736
2020 - 765
2021 - 765
2022 - 750
2023 - 778
2024 - 759
2025 - 718

Yeah, and frankly I wouldn't count any teams that withdrew without ever kicking a ball. I get that they paid for entry though.

Haha all good mate, I have the same numbers! Maybe I'll get around to weeding out the forfeits.
Good idea - I eventually need to go and add all the Australia Cup into the database. I wonder if it’s worth doing a Pre Australia Cup version (if the numbers are available) of who entered each statewide cup until that point
