2026 Australia Cup final rounds thread

SD Raiders and APIA Leichhardt got the job done over Rochedale Rovers and Peninsula Power respectively both by 2-1 scorelines to get the Hahn Australia Cup competition proper underway, also becoming the first two teams to progress to the round of 16.

And with those results, the chance of a QLD side being in the round of 16 is highly unlikely.

As much as the Roar are a basket case, the results of NPL QLD in the cup has been just as bad over the years.

Power actually had some nice spells of play, especialy after going down 2 nil... Their goal was well worked and the midfield pivot was a calm cool player... Apia just a little stronger, the gulf in class isnt huge...

Power minus GC Knights are probably the best NPL Qld side over the last decade or so.

Their result on paper isn't a poor one because as you say APIA are more then decent and it was pretty close game but for a state with the population/participation numbers etc there is no denying we have massively underperformed in the cup proper.

Its probably because Melbourne clubs raid the best QLD playing stock every year.... Sorry

QLD NPL league in general terms is pretty poor sadly - around 5yrs ago it was decent with a fair few quality players but lately its devoid of quality apart from 2 or 3 teams so have to agree QLD teams will all be gone this round

From what I saw of the APIA game they didn’t play particularly well, not overly convincing, but getting the job done in the end is all that matters. Top of the table npl qld team easily has the potential to be a banana skin. APIA in a bit of a form slump at the moment, they’ll want to turn that around as quickly as possible, I’m sure they will.

SD raiders youd think they’ll be pretty happy with that result away in qld, only recently promoted to npl 1, to go interstate and get a result they’ll be happy with that

You'd think that the fans wouldn't want to harm their own club. What's that saying about treat them like animals they'll behave like animals?
I don't think people understand how big a match this actually is.

It's the first time Beograd (Serbian backed club) have ever played an Albanian backed club. Just because it's in Adelaide, doesn't mean the animosity is any less then it would be, if the match was in Melbourne or Sydney.

I'd also imagine that away section will be quite packed, given it will likely be topped up by the South Australian Albanian community.

It has all the ingredients to make national headlines for the wrong reasons
