2026 Australia Cup final rounds thread

keep this in mind very likely Melbourne City will be without Patrick Beach, Aziz Behich, Mathew Leckie for Melbourne City's Australia Cup round of 32 away tie against Weston Bears on Sunday July 26th as City keeper Patrick Beach confirmed on SEN 1116 this morning during interview with Tom Morris (filling for Gerard Whateley this week) he'll be having a few weeks off before reporting back for pre-season.

same goes for Paul Okon-Engstler for Sydney FC's round of 32 away tie against Bayswater City on July 21st along with Nishan Velupillay for Melbourne Victory's round of 32 away tie against Kingborough Lions on July 26th as per FIFA mandates a minimum off-season break (holiday) of at least 21 days for all professional players between seasons.

With the longest off season in the cosmos I'm sure they'll be chilling for a few weeks. A League clubs however have started training.

Excellent preview of the Australia Cup by the gang. Impressive knowledge of the ins and outs and standards around the federations, as always.



One thing I'd add, even though I completely agree about the disrespect labelling this as a preseason tournament, technically there is quite a disadvantage for the players, and hence clubs, who were at the World Cup this year.

The players are forced to have at least three weeks off after the WC.

Let's take Melbourne City for example. The Socceroos got eliminated on 4th July. Assuming they start holidays immediately and it's for 21 days, they can return to their club on the 26th. City's first match is on the 26th. Practically, that's their first day back at pre-season training, but it's an Australia Cup match.

Just an annoying detail in a World Cup year.

Still think it's incredibly risky for the Beograd match to not be played behind closed doors - even though there will be a large security presence.

All it takes is for a bad decision from the ref or a horror tackle and this game turns ugly very quickly.

Should still be a routine victory (especially after the fed cup final win on the weekend) but there definitely is an air of trepidation

if policed correctly and organized well there will be no problems.

The biggest derbies in the world have fans, and we are worried about a few hundred people.

FFS, must be the Australian syndrome, lets just play the games "behind closed doors".

All due respect, is it really that high risk? North sunshine have played Serbian backed clubs many times in Melbourne where you’d think trouble would be more likely if anything due to proximity and numbers etc

Let them be. Don't punish the actual fans. The trouble makers lose points or forfeit.
