What a night at Lakeside Stadium.
After 20 minutes, we are cruising at 2-0 up and Fremantle have literally done nothing for the first 30 minutes. And then our reserve goalkeeper decides to gift Fremantle 3 goals. He was utterly rattled throughout the match and the defenders at one stage refused to pass the ball back to him. The amount of scoring chances we created was nothing short of ridiculous. I think in the end we had 67% possession and 44 shots with 13 on target. We should have won by at least 3-4 goals margin tonight.
Credit to Fremantle who pushed us. They are a quick team and tried hitting us on the counter attack. Their forwards have some real speed.
And after having gifted Fremantle 3 goals, the South reserve goalkeeper saves 3 penalties to go from villain to hero. You couldn't script it any different. The scenes were wild at the end, and the near constant rain didn't dampen any celebrations.
Decent crowd for a Sunday 7.40pm kick off in near constant rain throughout the night. Can only imagine what the crowd would have looked like if it were under the sunny conditions from last Sunday.
Now we wait for our quarter final opponent in either Brunswick Juventus or Preston Lions.
