2026 Australia Cup final rounds thread

Jack Duncan goalkeeper from Melbourne Victory appeared on 3AW Sports Today program with hosts Jimmy Bartel and Laura Spurway a short time ago (from 12:48 til 19:29 into the full show podcast).

To discuss his penalty shootout heroics last Saturday Night at Marconi Stadium he mentions he was not nervous at all before penalty shootout started they were very well prepared in case that went the distance.

And mentions any chance silverware is important especially leading up to the regular season started saying its been few years without bringing home the chocolates also taking it seriously.

Especially getting thru first couple of rounds of the Hahn Australia Cup by progressing with more competitive matches under its belt before Isuzu UTE A League Men season starting & AFC Champions League Two group stage starting.

It’s been also a breath of fresh air with Giovanni Savarese coming in as our manager for everyone within the club with a different perspective and been well received brought in real positive mindset comes across really well with his man management and relationship with playing very good.

He was saying hopefully battling out silverware in all three major competitions this season along with plenty of matches with our involvement in AFC Champions League Two with the playing philosophy there has been some small minor few tweaks to the playing style with a similar formation to last year ahead of the 2026/27 season.

You're reading it correctly, it's that image that is incorrect. I said when they first posted that diagram, they need to swap the bottom right quarter with the top right corner.

South or Preston will host the semi according to the draw on the night.
 
Brisbane Football Review podcast co-host Adam Pace confirmed to me last night very likely all member federation semi final will be midweek tie (September 8/9 window) as well he revealed to me last night especially given NPL Queensland grand final already slated for Saturday September 12th and along with NPL VIC semi final weekend is September 11-12-13 and grand final for September 19-20.

NPL QLD finals series,
semi finals: August 28-29-30
preliminary final: September 4-5-6
grand final: September 12th (at Spencer Park)

NPL VIC finals series,
elimination finals: September 4-5-6
semi finals: September 11-12-13
grand final: September 19 or 20 at (Lakeside Stadium)

Massive task for either Preston or South to manage both NPL Victoria finals and Australia Cup semi final in such a short time frame.

Either team would be facing an NPL VIC Elimination Final, Australia Cup semi final, and perhaps an NPL VIC Semi Final in the space of 7 days. Those players will be physically and mentally spent after those 3 matches. Then they would have to pick themselves up for the NPL VIC Grand Final the following week.

Apologies for the delayed response, I wish I had more for you my friend but I do not unfortunately. Not privy to said financial information, but I would imagine it was better than a kick in the nuts as they say. You’d have the venue hire and then the associated bump in revenue at the club itself via food and beverage sale etc

Used to be quite common that Marconi would be used as a neutral venue for state cup finals, grand finals etc you’d even sometimes have other Sydney clubs use it during nsl finals etc but that’s less common place nowadays
