2025 Hahn Australia Cup

Crowd number? As a possible indicator for AU championship?
About 2-3k, of those about 2/3rds were Croatia fans. Hard to say what that would mean if Metro qualified for the Australian Championship.

The Metrostars have been the best football team in SA in the last decade, along with Campbelltown & arguably Adelaide City, but they're mid-table at best in terms of fan support.

Metro have fuck all fans. They're a relatively new club.

So from a football perspective meteo is the team that would be best for championship but from a number perspective its anyone other than them..
Not that it matters do we which NPL SA teams overall are the best supported?
I mean we know ad city over the years had a great following but how are they now? Etc

Hellas probably have the most staunch supporter base but they're a bit of a basketcase of a club. Took them about 15 years to build their new stadium from when the first sod was turned. SA football nowadays is very diluted with no club really commanding a serious support base that would compare to anything in NSW or Vic.

Thanks Lupi!

City's still the most popular, mostly due to NSL nostalgia. Croatia & Beograd have decent followings from their communities. Playford City is probably the best supported non-ethnic team. I was intrigued when they announced their bid for the NSD, but they fell out early in the process.

Thanks dsr seems as if some momentum is still there for the old powerhouses in the state which is good for the new comp if they can engage.. from a Vic perspective we have been fed the idea that all the old guard moved to Adel Utd and it was the success story they always wanted, and the rest was just scorched earth...

Has been said here before i believe …that the dynamic in a relatively small city like Adelaide is a little different. Adelaide city seemed to have previously been the “big Adelaide club” and had the support resources, the city and to some degree the state behind them when they were the sole nsl club…then replaced by Adelaide united and everyone got on board and shifted over by and large despite Adelaide city still being the “biggest/most prestigious club” outside the a league. More of a one team town mentality. One/two clubs max. Similar dynamic re the afl with the traditional sanfl clubs and the crows; most people previously had a local club but then got behind the crows. This is just based on my interactions with relatives from there having only been a frequent visitor, never lived there myself. Probably a local could give a better insight

Obviously that doesn’t translate to a place like Sydney or Melbourne where there is the much bigger population base and the room for/culture of multiple clubs

As far as fan bases in Adelaide, they're all close enough to each other in number that it wouldn't be a factor in deciding an NST team.

Performance wise, there's been a usual top 4 for a decade or so, Metrostars, Campbeltown, Comets and City. But this year it's all Metrostars, and they have been perennial winners since joining the federation over 25 years ago.

The other factors for NST would be money and growth potential. City were strapped for cash, but have landed some sponsors recently. Comets have a nice pitch in the city. But I wouldn't know how they all match up regarding cash and growth.

Who's up for an Australia Cup tipping comp on here? 31 matches.

For something different, I'm thinking of doing it like a league table. We only have to tip the winners or draws, no margins. I'll score it like this:

Correctly tipping a winner gets you 3 points plus the goal difference from the match; if the other team wins then you get 0 points and lose the goal difference from the match; if the result is a draw, you get 1 point and 0 GD.

But if you correctly tip a draw you get 3 points, plus for a random twist you also get whatever the score of the draw as a bonus GD; e.g. a 4-4 draw will add +4 GD for you. Incorrectly tipping a draw gets you 0 points and minus GD from the match.

It doesn't seem complicated in my head hahaha. But I don't mind seeing how it goes when it's only 31 matches.

City are still OK on the field but are not a well run club, and do not draw crowds that are any bigger than Metro, Campbelltown etc. In other words bugger all. The last Cup final I went to a couple of years ago between City and Modbury had a crowd of 1,700.
