2025 Australia Cup final rounds thread

Nothing false about what polska said at all... that was APL appeasing refing masterclass if ever there was one... congrats to the jets for having it handed to them! Pure and simple.. had any of that gone the other way you would be lividly screaming from the rafters!! With VAR bergers have won that!
Probably, maybe, perhaps....

Heidelberg by far received the most penalties of any team in npl vic this season, they challenge backlines by constantly running at them and arent afraid to drop to the ground when required, in regular league play they would have got both decisions, i can however see why both were turned away.
Thing is you substitiute ANY non AL side into that equation and im 100% sure the outcome wouldve still been the same to get that final result! Had it been AL vs AL and those wouldve been called every day of the week, No?

Possibly its hard to say. I just dont understand how VAR wasnt used. Its not like the final was at some tinpot ground that doesnt have the technology for it.

They actually stopped paying them last season in AL v AL as a matter of course to the extent that some were paid and others ignored. I can understand you not knowing that unless you secretly watched games in which it happened. I would genuinely suggest that making a "100%" comment if you don't actually follow the games is probably more based on prejudice than fact (which does not automatically make the opinion wrong in itself).

I have a pretty strong feeling that someone even got a yellow for simulation for heavier contact than the first penalty shout in this game.

It is not consistent between refs - but the intent to ignore exaggeration was there and nothing is a certainty anymore.

It is not AL being carried against all comers - it is how the refs were instructed to referee and I personally find it a step forward in what bugs many people about our game.

On live time, I thought the free kick that resulted in the Berger red card was harsh. On the replay though, he clearly got the player and no ball. I also then agreed with the card being red. The Jet player was in front of the other Bergers attempting to get back, was clear on goal and so DOGSO.

Looking forward to watching Moreton Bay in the Championship.

There was no bias in the refereeing. Kersey is just a poor referee in my opinion. If VAR was used he just would have disagreed with that. Opinion not based on last night only - we just have poor refs at the national level in Australia. Many of the refs I see in the NPL are better than the ALM refs.

I get that... Somebody appoints him though i assume, and since he is that bad why assign him a final is the question! Its supposed to be the crown jewel of the comp for the best of the best only to Welch on the refing!

Firstly congrats to everyone involved in preparing the ground, the pitch and surrounds looked beautiful on TV and the lighting was very good. Genuinely feel for the Bergers, I was backing them against other A league teams in the run up, but can't hide my joy at winning something. Regarding the reffing, I agree with my mate Pat, he's always been a pretty crap ref, and make no mistake, the Jets have been on the wrong end of a lot of his decisions for a very long time. Maybe we could send him to the Vic NPL

Well done to the Jets. They look to have a good young squad. I gather Anton is funding your scholarships

they should have been penalties but then it looked like Newcastle had one too.

On a side note, I went with a mate from overseas. We were surprised by how little some Heidelberg fans were getting into the game.

Blokes in front of us all in Heidelberg gear and they sat there talking with each other the whole game organising where they were going out after and hardly watched the game 😂

But yeah horrible ref.

Heidelberg had the chances

Also fucking hell Clarendon street is grim at night

I think it was in everyone’s interest besides jets fans for Heidelberg to win that game.

I just think the ref was crap

My opinion will always somewhat reflect my prejudice as everyones and im aware of that and dont hide it to be fair (and its all in good conversation here).. ..given the history though its a leap from there to giving blind faith and trust that APL and/or FA have all in the games best interest at heart and influences and biases dont play their part! ..what im certain of 100% is that attitudes and actions from both the above entities have long proven the exact opposite and its not changed just bc its veiled or more underhanded.

I can understand your.point about the instruction as such if its the case, but like many others, i remain unconvinced of it as the sole reason. and last night didnt go any way of changing that!

If im wrong then so be it, it must just be me.. perhaps the FA is looking to cement the pyramid (sure proved it with its handling of the championship), APL is working towards the good of all clubs and awaits a date to open up to the pyramid (also proven emphatically), AL clubs are open to more competition and their owners cant wait thus apply no pressure on the FA via their means of pressure/control (boy has this been proven!) and they do not do everything in their power to leave the status quo and quash all opposition.... but good to know they would draw the line at appointing an unsuitable ref that would conveniently avoid a disaster on the books of the APL and add to the calls of destroying that status quo.. reading it now it probably is just me, the conspiracy theorists. 😅

The atmosphere will be way better this Friday. Heidelberg fans are too passive. From the opposing end of the ground the jets fans were way louder.

In what way was clarendon grim? Pre game every pub and eatery was packed.

Also it was a great night, even though we wanted to see Heidelberg win. Cool being at a packed stadium there.

Only down side was they closed the bar way too early

Oh everything was just shut after it and there were nutters walking around.
