2025 Australia Cup final rounds thread

Watching Avondale v Stirling Macedonia. Looking like the most competitive of the games. Avondale playing at green gully rather than Hume as they have in previous years. Wonder whether they’ll do for a home venue for the championship. Would imagine the Reggio Calabria club won’t be deemed an acceptable venue

I heard they where going to play out of Western United's training ground... who knows?
 
As a result of both Heidelberg United and South Melbourne being in Dockerty Cup final at Home Of The Matildas on Saturday August 9th (4.00pm kickoff) that their respective round of 16 Australia Cup ties will be played on the midweek of Tuesday August 12th & Wednesday August 13th.
 
Watched South Hobart v South Melb last night.

Apologies to SM supporters, having poor visibility in the wet area. It was a big crowd for KGV and the spectator comfort was poor. The small stand was full - which has great viewing. I had the worst view I've ever had at a sporting event.

Thought SM would be more dominant. Like the look on the ball of the number 15 DM of Asian extraction, and the number 3 LB for SM. Hobart boy Andy Brennan was decent too for SM on the wing.

SM knocked it around nicely at the back at times, but hoofed it down the flanks too much, instead of playing inside on a diagonal passing lane to a mid, who could then play a diagonal ball out to the wingers with a better body shape to receive. Also, the South M keeper played too many hoof balls, rather than playing out. However, SM played out from the keeper very well at times.

Also the tall , slim CB from SM received on his left side with the outside of his right foot, dragging it across his body. As did another SM player, which is awful practice!

My daughter's mixed gender futsal teammate, Kody Kemp, scored a cracker of a bicycle kick goal to open the scoring for SH. Her workmate, Nick Morton's shooting was quite inaccurate from some good positions.

SM's first goal was a ripper! From my vantage point I could not tell if it was a volley or a headed goal. Their second was due to awful SH defensive mistakes.

Loved the SM visit! I wish they had brought the drums like in previous SM visits. Love the active supporters from SM creating atmosphere! Wish we had fixtures like this in an AL 2 fixtures in Hobart every fortnight.

Gee, we need promo and releg for like AL 1, AL2 and NPL. We have to wait another year for a game like this in Hobart.

Given the key outs for South Melb this playing style was expected! Good game overall..

Not a year, some good teams heading down in a few months Marconi, Wollongong and especially Heidelberg should have you excited!

Valid points but explainable ones... Last night saw us VERY flat accross all 3 lines, Left side 1/2 back Inglese was a makeshift replacement for our normal captain who is the better ball carrier of the two CBs THUS Javi having to go the "boot" more often than not.

1st goal was very indicative of our high press, quick pass, run into the box scoring of late, a fine move and Bonadas second goal was his poure paocher instinct at best display.... We had a couple of near misses and clear cut handball in the box penalty (not to mention this bizarre call on a high boot to the head in the box which was given as a indirect???) not given..

But goal of the night was that audacious scissor..... Please tell your daughter to p ass on this old Hellas fans absolute congratulations to that young man .. the cheek on him... well done, hell remember that one for a lifetime....

Well organised by South Hobart.... sad I didnt make it down for the match, looked like a fun crowd..... I have no doubt they will make a worthy addition to the Championship soon and will be visiting often.

Yeah, this was weird. I thought an indirect free kick was given for dangerous play where no contact happened. My understanding is that a high boot with contact made was a direct free kick, so a penalty in this case, with a yellow card (or worse, depending on severity) to the offender.

Can the referees on here clarify please?

That's always bugged me. If a player comes from behind you to head your foot, that's their fault, you don't have eyes in the back of your head. It's different though when the players are in your vision, can't raise your boot.

Like last night's bicycle kick goal, if a defender put his head in there, they're stupid, full stop.

Either blanket ban high boots or stop blaming players without eyes in the back of their head who can't see players with zero regard to their own safety.

If you are going to have your foot at or up near head height, then the onus is on you to be aware what is around you. "I didn't see that player and/or know that player was going to put his head there" is not a defence.

Agree, especially as a defender in the box.

I just think it's daft that there's a difference between a high boot in a Puskas worthy bicycle kick goal and a potential red card if someone throws their head in there from nowhere.

Can defenders clear the ball via a bicycle kick and it's all good?

Absolutely they can, but the onus is on the defender to make sure when they do they aren't a chance of hurting someone.
