2025 Australia Cup final rounds thread

Not really mate, its currently 40 degrees in Athens and speaking to cousins over there they are all shitty the season is starting too early....

BTW I thought you all voted to NOT be part of Europe anymore???
Only the political arm, geographically, nothing we can do about that. The EU is the least democratic union on the planet.

No they wouldn't.... not even close.... JULY/AUGUST are unbearable for players and fans for early season. Euro qualifiers as it is...

Maybe in those barbarian northern coutnries it would be ok?

I very much doubt that attendances would fall for the A League if we went to winter. The "clear air" premise no longer stands scrutiny.

It is purely for television so that the contracted network has summer sports filler content. TV pays the bills so TV gets what it wants.

This would be fine if all games were played under lights. That was, of course, the original "summer soccer" idea. The crazy thing is that the ratings for the peak heat A League games are close to non-existent. For the life of me I can't understand why there isn't at least one grownup in the room who calls this out.

Play all games under lights, and do what the MLS does and have some at the same time. It really doesn't matter anymore. The Neanderthal thinking in the boardrooms is extraordinary.

The other thing I can't understand is why the PFA doesn't do something useful for once for its members and orchestrate a boycott of extreme heat games. If there's one organisation that should be fighting for night games it is the PFA.

My Weather app is only showing 23 degrees in Athens as we speak. between 31 & 34 the rest of the week, just like Sydney in Summer.

Already mined the channel with the Eurostar.
Jesus Christ, it was 40 degrees last week or the week before then... You win, EVERYONE in Europe is praying for a summer season... Sitting in the afternoon sun, getting heatstroke and watching lethargic football is EXACTLY what they have been craving for decades now....

Heidelberg is an interesting test case because unlike the average npl club they borderline had a professional pre season, 5-6 training sessions a week over the summer, playing games every 3 days now and running them out comfortably. I've never seen a local team so well conditioned, i've attended both games and put simply the wanderers and phoenix couldnt go with them, too quick, too smart, well drilled. They have some big boys as well, they actually look like the professionals. IF they get through the semi i think they're winning this.

C'mon LFC, summer football never started with the A league. You can't spend 90 minutes in the sun watching football? The funny thing is, is that all of Europe would love to have summer football.
Sutho I said nothing about who started about playing our game here in the summer.
Point is thats where your comp chose to play in fear and told by a broadcaster here's your place it seems.
During summer heck no do I want to be at a ground late arvo's compared to chilling out around the beach's - or having a late arvo bbq or doing whatever else enjoying daylight savings.
I have enjoyed going to have a early am or late arvo kickabout when my team mates have rallied up doing so but yer nah too used to usual football season.
By the way I've never enjoyed pre season games through Feb/early March (a young tacker not a prob) - too damn hot/warm but path of the course when your playing.
The euro argument varies where as has been mentioned but I'm sure most/majority % wouldn't want the game played in summer thats for sure....moot point.

Auckland to win the whole thing! Bring the Cup back to NZ where it belongs. If the FA want a big crowd they should let Auckland host the final.

Interesting comments in here.

I've seen so many people say Aleague level has gone up in recent years, it hasn't, it is poor and if anything has gone down in recent years, have said this for the past few years now. No money, means more youngsters who have not earnt/deserved get a first team call up leading to a decrease in quality. Wellington yesterday, the youngsters were atrocious.

NPL level has also gone down, but not as much as the Aleague has. Regardless, Wellington and WSW should not be getting hammered like that even in pre season. Credit to Hiedelberg and Johnny A though, they look good, some very well taken goals.

As for the crowd, poor, but did expect more. These NPL teams have no fans, apart from SM and Preston who have a couple thousand. This is what the Championship will look like except for maybe SM and Preston home games.

Yes AND no regarding crowds.... pride. tribalism and rivalry may very well bring back a few .. its a bit of an unknown at this stage... I would hazard a guess more people would come to OV (if Heidelberg win on the weekend that is) if the rest of the Championship is buzzing than what would be drawn out on a cold weeknight against a foreign team... Not justifying their poor crowds, because I agree with you, but context is that if it was City or Victory I reckon the crowd would have been half decent last night....

As for the the state fed teams, I reckon they will be decently attended, Broadmeadows Magic for example, would be frothing to play South at home ( I assume, anyone here have an insight?) as would the Brisbane teams.... chance to be on the big stage, televised, and playing the next best thing to Aleague competitions .. Im pretty sure South Hobart peeps would feel the same with their draw? The Sydney NPL clubs are going to have a bump in interest playing outsider "big clubs". The only club I dont have any faith in drawing a 1000K+ crowd is Avondale...

This is just me, and it’s all in good fun, but having lived in Melbourne and Sydney I can guarantee categorically that Melbournians harbour a lot more disdain for Sydney than vice versa.. completely independently from soccer and otherwise
Not particularly mate... Sure we can hark on a bit about how good Melbourne is, but personally, Sydney and Brisbane are both pretty low on my radar.

Not the case for everyone obviously, but scaled to population level there’s a clear imbalance imo, as I say, it’s all in good fun.

Same dynamic exists between Adelaide and Melb, there’s a clear dislike in Adelaide towards Melb which isn’t reciprocated to the same level in melb towards Adelaide

We should be expecting decent crowds in the first season of the championship, similar to when Aleague started. But after year 1, it wouldn't surprise to have most teams get a few hundred.

WA for example, got 4k against Victory, it was an event. If it was against South Melbourne or any other NPL team, lucky to get 500.

Exactly. we in Sydney don't think of Melbourne much really. But Melbournians like to tell everyone how much better they are than Sydney.
