2025-26 A-League Women — finals series matches

Teo Pellizzeri seriously didn’t wanna shut up about Laura Hughes being capped for Wales. Wales clearly aren’t as good as us and she clearly is much more likely to make their squad than she is ours.
Laura Hughes is also locked in to Wales after making her debut in a friendly shortly after jumping ship from Australia so the likelihood of her making a Matildas playing list is now zero.

I mean, I thought it was interesting to hear, particularly since he said she'd been capped for the Matildas, so now she's capped for two countries, which I think is neat.

EDIT: at least, I thought he said she'd been capped for Australia, I don't know shit.

Oh yeah I’m not saying he shouldn’t have mentioned it, but going on about it seems like he wants to get people upset for no reason. Blokes like Cristian Volpato snubbing Socceroos caps to never make the senior Azzurri squad aren’t the same as an A-League player playing for a weaker national team that she could start for.

In saying that, I hope she starts for Wales now. Their squad is mostly WSL2 players so there’s definitely a chance even if she never leaves Melbourne City (unlikely).

Oh I guess I didn't get that impression, I thought it was more informative 😅

Odd that Alexia Apostolakis didn’t start.
Alexia Apostolakis wouldn't have started this match because this is her first game back for Melbourne City after starting every match for the Young Matildas as captain during the under-20 Women's Asian Cup in Thailand and she would have probably been rested as part of load management.

Is that a stats thing that Sofascore?

Personally a Player of the Match shouldn't have anything to do with winning or or losing, but about how they played their match.
It’s an excellent app and website, gives heaps of details on performance and stats! The Aussies Abroad feature on here uses it.

I’m usually inclined to agree about winning and losing though. Individual performances vary greatly.

Roma could win the Serie A tonight I think!
Winonah Heatley and AS Roma cannot win the Serie A Women title this matchday but will have all but clinched the title with a win as they need four points from their last three matches.

Maybe that’s what he intended to be fair.

Anyway you should join us on Aussies Abroad! Roma could win the Serie A tonight I think!
Ah thanks but I don't have it in me to watch more than one game I'm afraid haha

Besides, I've got other plans (It's Guy Montgomery's Spelling Bee and Pokémon with my partner).

All good! We don’t always watch the games live (sometimes just stats) but we do also chat after the games.

Enjoy the rest of the evening!

Melbourne City ran out 1-0 winners over Melbourne Victory in their A-League Women semi-final first leg game at AAMI Park, with Leticia McKenna scoring the only goal of the match in the 45th minute. The result sees Melbourne City take a 1-0 lead on aggregate heading into the return leg next week, but fixture details for the second leg of their Dub semi-final haven't been confirmed yet.
