2024 ASEAN Championship

Look at these line ups with the mascot animation. Now that's cool!

Some of the goals. Wish we could take part and find a way with the football calendar. Send a mixed squad of A League/ Asia Roos and the odd European based. Even the best in the NPL would be up for it. Just a cool tournament and opportunity.

It's a strange situation. We've tried to enter this tournament but ASEAN won't let us in.

Yeah it would be great to have our local stars be part of it. But there's a problem with that... FIFA ranking and pot seedings. If we don't send our best and end up losing, our ranking would plummet.

It's all a bit complicated this. The format is very interesting yet brutal. 4 home and away in a matter of 13 days. Fairly close geographically, Australia would be too much unless we hosted Brisbane or further north.

It's true we'd have to take it seriously due to the rankings effect. A deeper look at squads, Indonesia mostly domestic with some from abroad.

Australia could form a squad out of A League, NPL, Asian based, MLS (some there for respective nations) and you'd have some from the EFL who could get out and anyone in lower European Leagues or not playing for their club much.

Gave it a bit of thought. Not looking to debate the squad as such but given some set of criteria an Australian squad could look like:

Langerak, Glover, Cook

Simmons, Bovalina, Grant, Deng, Rowles, Degenek, JCP, Gersbach

Yazbek, JGR, Luongo, J Hollman, Thurgate, Stensness

Toure, Iredale, Duke, D'Agostino,
G. Kuol, Brook, Mabil, Milanovic, Drew

You wouldn't want to decimate A league teams and players based in Europe wouldn't want to risk their spots (EFL keepers union)
Just realised this schedule is great for teams on winter break and some European based players have made their way over.

I mean if we were to take it really seriously, Ryan would be available from Roma. The St Pauli based players too.

Here's a weird one, I work at a TAB in Melbourne's East, I've counted 9 different people come in with the correct exact score ticket (Vietnam 3-2) it was paying 40/1. The amounts bet were between $10 and $100.

I've never seen 2 people with the same exact score winning ticket before, even going back to the world cup. Let alone 9 dif people doing it anonomosly on betting machines. Virtually everyone bets through their accounts these days.

I did call up the TAB headquarters, they said they've flagged the bets as suspicious. Not sure where it goes from here.

Saw that news and immediately thought Australia should be in it. But those nations probably don’t want Australia in it. They don’t think Australia in Asian/ASEAN, and they know Australia would probably win the whole thing (even with A-League players).

As I said in another thread, it’s been mostly from our🇦🇺 end that we’re not thoroughly integrated into ASEAN by now(though I don’t doubt that there are those from within the region who would very much like it to remain so)

Rumour on Box 2 Box that Australia might be in the 2026 ASEAN Championship! Starts immediately after the World Cup.
