Every time i saw Webster play in the test team he seemed to do well.
The performances last summer against India are what I remember. And India are a tough team to beat.
Another factor is at home grounds the team needs 2 spinners and at other grounds the team isn't even sure that they need a spinner. Webster is ideal in both situations.
I was impressed with his fielding, batting and bowling, perhaps not exceptional but solid and IMO reliable in all 3 areas.
I don't think Lyon is bowling much better than him.
My issue with Lyon isn't just age, i think that he is not the bowling threat that we was a fee years ago.
I don't understand why Inglis played instead of Webster. If they were leaving out Lyon, Webster needed to play. And if they wanted to play Inglis and Webster they should have omitted a pace bowler.
