"Can you smell the fear?", do the other football codes in Australia (AFL,NRL), genuinely fear football?

AFLw did quite well in their grand final. People are so strange how they don't care the whole season but then the final they all watch. A million people watched the GF

Strange world

Good marketing, it was covered everywhere. Even the best player medallist was on the news. But the ALW barely gets a mention during GF week.

Shows how sucked in by marketing people get. It's the same game same teams only difference is you get a trophy at the end thousands of people didn't care the whole season except the final game

That said, the marketing HAS to be good..otherwise it crashes&burns like the "You've Gotta Have a Team" crud w/that Yoshi twerp last decade.

You do realise it's quite possible to remember something because it was (at best)intelligence-insulting...
I'm not trying to be a smart ass but if an ad is memorable like fraaank walker from national tiles and you remember the product is that not the point of the ad? Maybe the a league suits put out the most anooying ad and it's better then whatever the hell they have done since

When you're advertising something as bland as wall/floor-tiles, that kind of cringy approach is prone to working; I don't believe it's inherently applicable to marketing a sports league(an individual club under certain circumstances..maybe, but not usually)

What the fuck have they done since?

Mate I think MCG has a perfectly valid point... I challenge you as a Melbournian to hear Tina Turner sing "Simply the Best" on the radio and NOT even fleetingly think of NRL.... even though (I'm assuming) you probably have no interest in it whatsoever...

Hold up, are you implying that the Tina Turner rugby-league ad campaign was ‘cringy’ like the Frank Walker jingle❓ It was GOATed - arguably the single most-iconic ad campaign in domestic 🇦🇺 sporting-history..!

Personally I think it IS goated BECAUSE it was cringy... I mean the song is almost AI like in its "motivational message"....

AND I cant decide which version below I like better :P

That campaign probably wasn't aimed at you. One ad is not going to appeal to every demographic.

Never understood the hate that ad got.

It's like Staj said, we want to run football down for some reason. Any excuse, any reason.

You’ve gotta admit that it ending w/the little brat choosing to barrack for Melb City, who’d just signed Timmy Cahill, was suss AF

  • Haha
Reactions: Muz
There are plenty of ads I detested and still remember, but that doesn't make them successful.

I had a violently visceral reaction to such crap ads and swore never to go anywhere near the advertised product.

During AFL season, every second ad has an AFL/W player in it or a kid with a footy. It's all free advertising for the league and shits me no end that our sport doesn't receive the same. All I remember last season was a Voltaren ad with Bratten!
