Wikipedia - but with no citation - has Singapore, Mali & Peru listed as playing in Australia. Don't know if it has any creditability.

Games between March 23 -31 in a 2 games each match day across 2 match days. Semi final and then final/third play off.

Peru are ranked 52 and Mali are ranked 54 Singapore are ranked 151

Playing Peru first up may make sense given we play Paraguay at the World Cup and don't have an African Group opponent, conversely and optimistically playing Mali first means we have some recent African opposition prior to potentially playing Egypt, Ivory Coast or others in a knockout game.

We definitely need Euro opposition prior to the first World Cup game, hopefully a friendly in June against one of the 12 EUFA Group Winners (Switzerland from Group B, Scotland from Group C, Norway from Group I or Austria from Group J ) near the Aussie base camp once that gets sorted out.

Scotland would be my choice of those due to knockout round double up potential for Groups B, I and J however it may be a case of picking a friendly opponent who may lack a rivalry and the Aussies vs Scotland would definitely be a poor choice from that perspective.

I see the logic in that to be honest but the gap between us and Singapore is enormous.

The Wikipedia article now only has us, Mali and Peru with a gap in the table for the remaining team. Still no sources though.

For the OFC teams, the All Whites will play in New Zealand but no opponents announced yet, apparently American Samoa will play Guam, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands in Puerto Rico, and apparently Tahiti will play Cameroon, Indonesia and Venezuela in Indonesia per Wikipedia, but again no source.

Australia vs Peru and getting Panama in as the last team and playing Mali in the other semi final would seem OK unless better alternatives are in play.

Panama have a decent ranking (especially compared to Singapore) don't yet have confirmed friendlies for March and play Ghana first up at the World Cup.

Then we would have Peru wanting revenge first up from 2022 and either Panama/Mali in the second game.

Thread already going. Title will be updated once teams are announced.

Peru and Mali are good opponents. Singapore makes no sense. I reckon Jamaica as a 3rd team would be a good test, or maybe a team from the Balkans like Bosnia to prep for the Euro sides.

Jamaica are in the intercontinental playoffs in March while Bosnia are in the Euro Playoffs then as well.

Still no announcement for the Australian group, Wikipedia is showing Cape Verde, Chile and Finland for the NZ group.

I thought the whole point of the FIFA Series was to have teams from different confederations participating. Weird if 50% of ours is AFC.

Just remember, 4 nations will be in Aus for it, but we are only going to play 2 of them. Doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll be playing China. The fourth - if we get a say - surely has to be a European nation - wouldn’t mind a “strong” country that failed to qualify to be honest (Iceland, Greece, Serbia would be the 3 to pick from)

Regardless of who we play we'll always end up in the question spiral. Easy opponents: didn't prepare us well and we need to be wary. Tough: we went OK and should be alright in our group. Normal reactions I suppose.

I liked seeing a lot of comments that world cup games are just so different to anything else that anything can happen and it's the one where the players will go all out.

Curacao "playing Australia and China" would mean that the un-named 3rd other team in our group would also play Australia and China on reverse match days.

So Australia wouldn't play China as it is not a full group round robin.

I am hopeful that the yet to be announced team is higher ranked than both Curacao and China and is ideally a Euro or South American team.
