Australian Dual Nationals 🇦🇺🏳️

I don't think Marin Jakolis is eligible to represent Australia - he is not really a dual national, only Croatian.

I recall reading an article about him some time ago, I can't remember where now, that claimed that he needed to live here for 5 continuous years before he could be considered as being eligible to represent Australia.
Yeah, that was a funny one. Saw an article that he was putting his hand up to play for Australia and noting he had to wait, then the next thing was he was off overseas.

Yeah that was annoying because he did look like a player who was genuine about australia

He genuinely believed that he was Australian and was not a visa player for City. However, when considered for teh Socceroos, it was found that his parents missed the critical date by less than 21 days.

don't think that's true. he has an australian passport, so he isn't a visa player. but he wasn't born here, nor were his parents or grandparents - his dad moved here as a child. thus, to represent australia - he'd have to live here for 5 years

Hey @grazorblade, do you think just report on players that haven't been confirmed to other national teams and can automatically play for the Socceroos with an allegiance switch, like Christian Volpato, Antonio Arena or Markus Walker, or do others as well that would count as non-visa players in the A-League but have chosen to play for other nations or don't automatically qualify, like Lyndon Dykes, Marin Jakolis, Charles M'Mombwa, Will Wilson.

whatever people find interesting!

Personally I only care about potential socceroos but I'm pretty darn patriotic in my football tastes and we have a variety of people on this forum, including the occasional person that cheers for other nations

Liam Chipperfield started and was subbed in the 71st minute for Sion in a 1-2 loss to Thun in the Swiss Top Flight.

Markus Walker came on in the 81st minute for Nordsjaelland in a 2-4 loss to OB in the Danish Top Flight.

Ante Suto started, received a yellow card and was subbed in the 86th minute for Slaven in a 0-0 draw with Hadjuk Split in the Croatian Top Flight.

Nice to see walker back

Chipperfield looks a few years away from chalenging for the roos but nonetheless kicking on

This really shits me to tears. He could've been a Socceroo for the next decade & probably played at 2 WCs at least. Not to mention, he's played with a lot of the guys in the current squad at both club level & junior NT. He just needed to have some patience. Not letting Popovic off the hook with his part in this either

Considering how quick the usual suspects have been in questioning his citizenship and parentage he made the right move.
