Doubt any of the games will be affected by international call ups

That is something!
I'm not really sure how this is much different to what occurred this year and in previous seasons. It seems to me that the only difference is all NPL and FQPL1-3 clubs and regional FQPL clubs are automatically entered, rather than having to enter separately.

I'm guessing there would still be a bunch of clubs not wanting to be entered, so they'll forfeit? But it's certainly a way of boosting the "number clubs entered" for the competition 😉

Yep, just sounds like more FQ spin to me.
I see it as total inclusion.

It may not change a single club joining or abstaining, but it says up front that everyone is in if they want.

I expect there will be some smaller and regional clubs that will take up the offer since they really don't have to do submit anything to be part of it.

'Just another game' at the least. So much more if they do well.

It helps the Kappa Queensland Cup too - with the chance at more interest across the State from clubs who do participate.

Yes, FQ is going to take advantage of any spin they can, but that does not mean it is a meaningless outcome.

Total inclusion is already there, everyone has always been able to be in if they wanted. And the Kappa Qld Cup is essentially just a renaming of the Australia Cup qualifying rounds, with the exception that the 4 qualifying clubs for round of 32 in Australia Cup go on to play semis and final for the Qld Cup.

In terms of regional interest it doesn't look like much will change, as it appears that regional clubs still will only get the chance to play SEQ clubs at the last 8 round, and only one regional club will get entry to that last 8 anyway (same as the last few years).

The vast majority of Qld clubs, in fact all in NPL-FQPL3 and most at FQPL regional level, and most at FQPL4 level and below, have already been in the Cup since it started. The exception was last year when in Central region only one FQPL club played (out of 7) and in Wide Bay where only 2 out of 8 (I think) played. I don't know why the others didn't nominate, but mostly they had in previous years, so that suggests to me they weren't interested anymore. I don't think the nomination process was that onerous, so why would their thinking change just because they are automatically included now?

At this point, it seems to me that whatever FQ is changing may be only marginally better than meaningless, if that.

Based off this seasons leagues + Australia Cup entrants, would mean 20 additional clubs 'entered' into Queensland:
  1. Bayside United (QPL3 Metro)
  2. Ipswich Knights (QPL3 Metro)
  3. North Pine (QPL3 Metro)
  4. Burleigh Heads Bulldogs (QPL3 South Coast)
  5. Palm Beach (QPL3 South Coast)
  6. St Albans (QPL3 Darling Downs)
  7. Uni of Southern Queensland (QPL3 Darling Downs)
  8. Gympie United (QPL3 - Sunshine Coast)
  9. Berserker Beats (QPL Regional - Central Coast)
  10. Clinton (QPL Regional - Central Coast)
  11. Bluebirds United (QPL Regional - Central Coast)
  12. Capricorn Coast (QPL Regional - Central Coast)
  13. Central FC (QPL Regional - Central Coast)
  14. Nerimbera (QPL Regional - Central Coast)
  15. Sunbury Blues (QPL Regional - Wide Bay)
  16. Bargara (QPL Regional - Wide Bay)
  17. Bingera (QPL Regional - Wide Bay)

Thanks for putting this list together NCB. The numbers are a touch higher than I thought, 20 out of a total of 107 clubs in FQPL1-3 metro and FQPL regional. 12 of those are from Wide Bay and Central as I mentioned previously, so 8 from the remaining 92 didn't enter.

Two of the three from FQPL3 Metro (Ip Knights and North Pine) are unexpected, don't know why they didn't enter, they did in 2024. Bayside isn't a surprise, they changed their approach this season (2025) and appear to now just want to be a small community club and find their appropriate level. They were relegated from FQPL2 in 2024, and wanted all senior players in FQPL3 in 2025 to pay $1000 registration, subsequently ending up losing all players from the previous season and then were relegated again after losing all 24 games, scoring 12 and conceding 111!. So I'm not surprised they didn't enter the cup.

The Gold Coast clubs (Burleigh and Palm Beach) entered in 2024. Gympie maybe didn't enter because of potential travel distance, as they would have been part of the SEQ draw (possible travel to Brisbane/Gold Coast/Toowoomba), and it looks like they didn't enter in 2024 either.

In any case, I still think the announcement from FQ of a "major evolution" in the Cup in 2026 is a bit of a beat-up, as not much appears to be changing.
