Summer of Cricket thread

Do you TC members know you have a cricketer Marcus Bean, 21, that stands 210cm (6'/10'') tall, playing for you DC. Am watching him bowl his left armers in the Seconds match and dead set he dwarfs every other player, even fellow pacemen. Dont mind betting he is the tallest cricketer playing Premier or 2nd X1 Cricket in the country.
Have heard the name, but I’m blown out how much you know about Tas cricket, Baggers.

DC Tassie also engaged in a Seconds game. Want a link. Anyway reason I'm posting this is Ricky Pontings nephew Tom Dwyer, 18, is playing and made 96 yesterday in his first major game. Coincidence or what as Ricky also made 96 in his first Test. Tom scored his first PC ton too a couple of rounds back, a white ball one I think. Sounds to me like a good batting prospect for Tassie cricket. Will have a better idea once I see him bat.
Thanks, Baggers!

Like his uncle, Dwyer is shortish, plays with positive intent, is acceptably compact in attack and defense. Day 3 must have been a washout or live stream was down. Comment DC after all he is Tassie home grown.

Mate the Tigers is my preferred team now along with the Warriors until the Blues heirarcy picks selectors that will acknowledge young talent over has beens, like TAS Cricket does. Take these two kids from my state for instance, paceman Hunar Verma and batsman/keeper Lachlan Shaw, both spent three yrs in rookies. Verma was jettisoned without a FC match while thankfully Shaw finally gets his chance this yr. And there have been others over the past 15 yrs, Harry Conway was one. Also guys like Blake MacDonald and Lachlan Hearne given no where near sufficient time to cement a spot. Both were forced to move interstate and are now traveling nicely in FC cricket. I think Hearne, specially has the skills to play at international level.

Haven't seen him yet, Baggers.

You know more about some aspects of Tas cricket than anyone in the Crick Tas Members!

Tas has been the beneficiary of NSW selectors' idiocy.

Tas scouts watched Jackson Bird bowl 3 balls in grade cricket and signed him. He played a long career for Tas and 4 Tests.

Idocy is correct and allowing the poaching of Bird is just one of many examples of that. We can go as far back as Dirk Wellham , then Ed Cowan, a lull then a recent flood Jackson Bird, Alex Doolan, Tim Ward, Lawrence Neil -Smith, Nathan Ellis, Raf MacNillan. Recall a good pace bowler, Greg Rowell too, add him to the list.

I'm a cricket tragic mate, like you guys are soccer football tragics. Have been since my uncle took my brother and I to the SCG to watch Lillee and Thomson devastate the Poms in the 74/75 Ashes. What a match to have as you first live one. Before that, like thousands of other fans I listened to famed radio commentator Alan McGilvray then Norman May on ABC television.

Check out the Seconds YT video DC.
Dwyer needs to learn discipline as he played a rash drive and holed out for 8 in sec inns. No doubt his uncle will have a word to him about 'getting yourself in first' before playing expansive shots.

Not to mention current Tas captain, Jordan Silk.

He was recruited from NSW, plus Dave Gilbert as well.

Yep. Mac Wright as well, forgot him. Latest is Nivethan Radhakrishnan. We sure have provided a decent pathway for Tasmanian cricket over the years. But mate it makes sense as we have a far greater talent pool than you and now I am personally pleased that some of our Tassie based cricketers may one day wear Aussie colors. Cowan, Doolan and Nathan Ellis already have and I still have hopes Tim Ward and Neil-Smith will too while Raf MacMillan is a big chance imho.

Doolan hails from Launceston, but there are many former NSW players down here.

Another is Charlie Wakim. Good batter to watch when he gets going.

reckon Marsh went from 1st to 5th gear here. Probably should've gone for the occasional risk but stay conservative for a few more overs. Tricky conditions
Reckon Josh Philippe was given an uppercut being dropped. One of our best players of spin in all formats. Carey would be better served playing shield leading into the Ashes.

Oh. Must've read incorrectly. Dools was treated shabbily by selectors, only given 4 Tests to cement his place. A joke. I said same at the time.
Aghhh.

National Aus selectors!

I’ve seen Dool bat a lot. He could get bogged down unable to get off strike with singles. Wonderful strokemaker - very elegant!
