2027 Asian Cup

Or Popa with Okon?
The season is in early stages. Lets see how these guys do. Younis and Robertson have started fairly well. Bennie, Sapsford maybe less so. Still a lot of time before the AC.

Funny the mention of Kruse. People hated his selection. He was getting very limited minutes in Germany at the start.

My memory is Smith and Ikon got minutes the same weekend for Liverpool and Lazio and people were calling to cap them. As we do. 23 and 17 caps. AA was pretty rough back then.

Throw in Luongo. Given he burst on the scene so young should have at least 80 caps. Criminally underutilised since Rogic and Mooy retired. Still only 33 and playing at the higest level of any of our mids at least according to ELO.
Mass only returned from his ACL the other day playing 45 mins for Millwall under 21s. The September friendlies might be too soon.

Also might mean the Asian Cup would be a tough selection unless he hits form for Millwall. As much as I love him and agree he should have played WAY more for the Roos. Hard to see him making a way back into our midfield now.

I'll never understand Kruse fans.

Touch of a trampoline and didn't have a clue how the offside rule worked.
Whilst I agree with you he was quick and did tend to attract fouls which Mile had a good record of converting. I always thought that an opposition that did their research would not foul Kruse as it was a lower percentage chance he would score himself than we would from the resulting set piece.

In Ikons case never played a min of first team football before Ange called him up.
I thought Ikon was a good player actually, dominated AC19, prob our best player that tournament. Came back to Perth that season, was excellent for 1 yr, got injured, then was never same again. Brad Smith was athletically extremely gifted which is what Ange ball requires of the fullbacks abd improved upon Jason Davidson at the time. Was sold to bournemouth for gbp7mil which was huge back then, then flopped.

In the yrs he played was miles ahead of any other socceroo in assists. People always remember the post double knee injury Kruse.

But before that during 2012 and 2013 he was easily our best player. Ive been to approximately 25 Socceroos matches and easily the best individual performance I saw was Kruse against Bahrain in 2013 where he got a hattrick of assists.

Still remember Les Murray and Basheer saying it was the best australian player theyd ever seen OFF THE BALL. Les said he was equal with Farina. In the 1 season he played in the bundesliga with Dusseldorf, was the most fouled player in Europe.

That's like saying: out of Hitler and Ghandi, Ghandi was the nicest.

Haha.

True but the way ppl go on here about Kruse especially compared to Leckie who ppl seem to view more fondly, youd think they might actually believe that Leckie was a better dribbler. Pre ACL Kruse was as good or better than Volpato and Irankunda. We havent had a player have as good of a season in the top 5 leagues since Kruse's 2012-13 season. Maybe only Matty Ryan at Brighton or last yr at Levante, or Circati last yr at Parma. There havent been many. Nor have we had a player appear regularly for a big club in the big 5 like Kruse did with Leverkusen in 2013-14. He was bench most league games but was first sub usually for Son HM, and then would play cup and euro games. There have been no Roos reach this level since.

Mooy's EPL stint eclipses them all. The guy was a beast.

I did think of him, certainly had a good season that yr with Huddersfield but i think Kruses' season slightly pips it. Won the most pens in europe i believe, the most freekicks and had a very good number of take ons and take on %. Got a lot of assists.

Mooy had a good season, but his season before that in the Championship was godlike, Hudders fans saying he was their greatest ever player afyer 10 odd games.

He more or less single-handedly kept them up that first EPL season.
