2026 Australia Cup final rounds thread

Heidelberg are pretty much cooked, 8 games without a win in the league, lose the dockerty cup final and now lose to 2nd bottom in vpl1. Anastasiadis will be signing off in a few weeks imo.
Best team outside the AL seems a distant memory after all of 1 season!! Hahahahaha

JA mustve been focusing on AFC2, what NO??

Shouts quarter finals are open. Dates and times to be updated.
Lions FC has Kappa Queensland Cup final already scheduled next Saturday
North Sunshine Eagles has VPL1M fixture already scheduled on Monday Night against FC Bulleen Lions
Preston Lions has a catch up game already scheduled for August 26th
also Leichhardt Oval is unavailable next Saturday

Seems pretty simple, bulleen v nth sunshine will be played on Saturday. Meaning both them and lions get the mandatory 72 hours rest to play Tuesday night. Whilst Preston v South likely gets the Wednesday, which true to South cup form in Melbourne looks like a rainy night lol

re APIA v Sydney united.

Thought APIA were by far the better team in the first half, but Sydney united came back into it second half and probably in the end will feel they could/should have won. Hats off to them for turning it around coz it didn’t seem likely going into half time.

Crowd was announced as around ~2.5k, can’t remember the exact figure but something in that range. Thought in terms of numbers the support was a fairly even split in the stands.

Riot squad were in attendance, full body pat downs upon entry, mobile cctv cameras etc as per the aus championship game between the two clubs but I felt that the policing was maybe slightly less aggressive on this occasion. Segregation was less strictly enforced etc

APIA v Melbourne victory is in my humble opinion perhaps the least intriguing of the combos that those 4 clubs could have thrown up, but still… should be interesting

Tough run now for APIA, they’ll more than likely have to beat Melbourne victory and Sydney fc to get to the final.

On the other side of the draw you’d think the winner of south Melbourne and Preston would be favourites to reach the final

Great atmosphere tonight and scenes after the shootout, crowd was probably 70-30 NS, and was a very strong crowd considering it's a neutral venue, around 1500 my guess. Heidelberg very poor turnout. Rory Brian what a performance.

Record attendance at CB smith 2500+, keen to see what they get in the quarters

In any case, potentially looking like a very interesting final lining up with some combination of Preston/south Melbourne v Sydney fc/Melbourne victory the most likely outcome

yep pretty much......
As you say APIA would need all the dominos to fall IF we beat MV first up.
Not how we ended up playing 2nd half last night BUT we did miss chances incl before SU came back into the game through the 2nd half.
You never know Raiders may also give SFC a real scare wouldn't that be impressive.
Anyway all to play for.
Preston SMH gonna be huge might I add.

PK's words on the cup so far have been pretty interesting. Talked about the PFA issue and how that affects the cup and squads currently.

Seems like a lot of clubs in the A-league are running on auto-pilot, PFA issue with the salary cap pretty much making signings and squad building much harder. In turn, some clubs are forced to put debut youngsters and just not caring until that is solved.

It would be a lot easier if the salary cap just fucked off already.
