They are targeting Canberra for next year - to me you pivot to Geelong now - for 14 at the same time. You already have a stadium to share and can then build a 15000 to 20000 boutique one later to cater for smaller games. The other two can wait for 2028/2029.

A few fails doesn't mean it doesn't work nor all avenues exhausted. But my thick skull has come in handy on occasions.

All of the failures to date have just been bad choices from the start, except maybe GCU but they had a lunatic owner. Everyone looking at Macarthur now. APL could another bunch of expansions and some might fail, but it might lead to a healthier league. What's that saying about breaking eggs? 🙃

The successes far outway the failures. City throw millions into facilities and player development every year, mens and women's, it's a production line of talent. The Wanderers were a great expansion, management aside.

You can't say that the good folks here have "no idea" and be correct.

As I've said, ownership and management are big factors but these big city offshoots were bound to fail. Canberra, Tasmania, Wollongong and Sunshine Coast can identify with their team. It doesn't need to be large or costly. Just keep it simple to get established and then be sustainable with sensible management and investment. Easier said than done but these places should have had teams for years already.

Yes, my poor choice of words.

The whole thing has me angry. Yes, there is the added element of my club NOT being considered, partly because of racist reasons.

Ironically, I fear that my club will push to enter this league.

No clubs based on ethnic lines. I know it's different elsewhere in the world but we don't want it in Australia. Too much trouble in the past and we keep seeing elements of it today.

Yeah I actually reckon South hold the key to bringing the APL back to earth and connecting the pyramid. Part of me thinks Rosich has already got that idea with meeting the club. It's going to happen I think, just a matter of when. Maybe it has to fit in with broadcast deals, either the current one or the next?

Apparently multiculturalism is our strength …
Imagine the excitement and fanfare over Greek Round, Italian Round, Croatian Round … and the mainstream media would fawn over football and say how wonderfully diverse it is.
And the government would give us hundreds of millions to promote even more diversity.
Oh, sorry, I’m thinking of the wrong football code.

I’m a skip who played for Marconi and Polonia as a youngster and dad used to take me to watch Marconi. Nothing better than Marconi vs Olympic in a small stadium. Never felt in danger in the crowd. Though a APIA supporter did once threaten to stab me while I was playing in an Iteye derby.
Best crowd experience in the last 10 years was an FFA cup match at Perry Park.

Interesting idea and might be good option to have to deescalate conflicts

Expansion does not work beyond two teams per city. That was the problem with Western United (we are pretending to be West Melbourne) and Campbelltown. Meanwhile Geelong and Wollongong - different cities were ignored.

TBH I think the only way to go to a third side in a city is through P & R. i.e. if South Melbourne came in via promotion they bring their supporters with them and we're not looking to a slice a finite pie into smaller pieces.

Just so that everyone does not think I am crazy and biased, I am curious about the financial aspect.

One of the claims made by quite a few people is that an A League team will not survive getting relegated. I believe that the EPL had developed a similar problem for relegated clubs who really struggled in the lower tier. They even set up a balloon fund.

Things can be managed to make Pro/Rel work.

On a related matter, the claim that Perth club cannot afford to be involved due to flight costs. Again ..... you create a equalisation fund for air travel.

I want P & R and financially someone like City would have no problem bouncing back up and parachute payments would help less viable clubs. My question in those situations is what restrictions are on NPL or Championship clubs and what does that mean to a relegated club. i.e. are they doubly punished. I don't really know the restrictions NPL clubs operate under any more. The last time I had a local NPL/NSL club near where I live was the mid 1980s.
