2026 Australia Cup final rounds thread

What a night at Lakeside Stadium.

After 20 minutes, we are cruising at 2-0 up and Fremantle have literally done nothing for the first 30 minutes. And then our reserve goalkeeper decides to gift Fremantle 3 goals. He was utterly rattled throughout the match and the defenders at one stage refused to pass the ball back to him. The amount of scoring chances we created was nothing short of ridiculous. I think in the end we had 67% possession and 44 shots with 13 on target. We should have won by at least 3-4 goals margin tonight.

Credit to Fremantle who pushed us. They are a quick team and tried hitting us on the counter attack. Their forwards have some real speed.

And after having gifted Fremantle 3 goals, the South reserve goalkeeper saves 3 penalties to go from villain to hero. You couldn't script it any different. The scenes were wild at the end, and the near constant rain didn't dampen any celebrations.

Decent crowd for a Sunday 7.40pm kick off in near constant rain throughout the night. Can only imagine what the crowd would have looked like if it were under the sunny conditions from last Sunday.

Now we wait for our quarter final opponent in either Brunswick Juventus or Preston Lions.

Yeah mate, they have also shown Eliopoulos training for the past 3-4 weeks... who knows... Our bench was, again, very thin last night.
I heard all 3 of them were due back post bye (javi, Eliops and Lamps). Mikkola being the long term out. We will see, my fear is we rush them all back for Preston and it comes unstuck, if trully ready they must get minutes this weekend.

Agree - we cannot rush these players back for the quarter final. Unless they have played some minutes this weekend against Melbourne City Youth, I would not risk it. At worst, I would have them on the bench for the quarter final, and only bring them on if required.

If Eliopoulos and Lampard can get 15-20 minutes in this weekend, then they should be fit enough to come off the bench and play 25-30 minutes in the quarter final. If Lopez is medically cleared, them he should start against Melbourne City Youth.

Bouzanis hardly made halfway with his first few kicks and found Sydney players far too often. He made a couple of great saves later but he was not ready to play when the whistle went at the start.
Not ready to play? Does he not train? He was directly at fault for two goals yesterday and Valkanis should start dropping hints about the number 2 keeper to get a rocket up him.
He had a stinker last night.
