·As a Czech, this is sad. Our football is barely watchable And corrupted asf. No suprised at all. At least we are number #1 in something, aside from beer consumption.
 
I think the best take I have heard is here, from Tim Vickery. For those not familiar with him, he's a dyed in the wool Englishman who has been living in, reporting on and writing authoritative books on Latin American football for decades. He's a little pro Brazil for my liking but in the English language there is none more knowledgeable.

TLDR;
  • Private equity is not a necessity for FIFA unless the organisation is facing a financial crisis, which it is not. The real motivation is political rather than financial. By aligning closely with the US administration and rightly being criticised for undermining the game and treating players and officials from the south of the equator with contempt, Infantino has eroded his support. This proposal is a bribe to them.
  • Infantino's case for private equity is fundamentally an appeal to self-interest: it promises greater investment and growth in football, but the costs will ultimately be borne by fans. The primary beneficiaries will be "football" he says, i.e. he and anyone else feeding at the trough within FIFAs extensive corporate bureaucracy.
  • UEFA should resist the temptation to break away. Historically, UEFA has argued against FIFA's one-country, one-vote model on the basis that European football generates most of the revenue (and they are white and washed). While those tensions remain, European football lives and dies on importing talent across the Global South, making separation both impractical and short-sighted.
  • At its core, this is a struggle for influence between FIFA and European club football. European clubs exploit the human resource and commercial side of the game, while FIFAs parasites profit from the primacy of international football.
  • The better solution is reform rather than private equity. UEFA should embrace a more open and inclusive model that strengthens global football without ceding control to investors. That will require addressing long-standing imbalances and rebuilding trust with nations outside Europe.
Interestingly, his hopeful solutions don't include resurrecting the lofty vision of Jules Rimet and FIFAs forefathers or reforming FIFA itself.

I'll be reaching out to the FSAA to see if there is any interest in applying pressure to the FFA to take a less piss-weak position. Otherwise, I'd be happy to work with anyone interested to rattle some cages.

For anyone unhappy with The President's family owning a company being involved then they can simply not purchase the products and services associated with them.

Do these people boycott Nestlé and Coca Cola too? I certainly don't agree with it but unless they actively boycott all associated brands then they're just a shrieking hypocrite. The retort will be they don't want to limit their life or lifestyle by not flying for example but will still fly with airlines that have questionable ethics or political affiliations.

In the end no one is really clean but until those who shriek about the apparent injustice of it all done give them a cent, nothing will even have a chance at changing. In the end they'll just be replaced by other consumers as consumers are mostly blind and don't care.

So you suggest they cease supporting the Socceroos in any FIFA sanctioned match...because if they don't, they would be hypocrites?

It's definitely tricky with sport as one supports a team and the country or city it represents. If people are totally against FIFA and want change then a boycott is probably the only way to get action.

We see different sets of fans at clubs. Some protest but still go to the match to support the players while others are totally out until things change.

Those who protest FIFA but still consume products and services from their sponsors are hypocrites. If the sponsors suffer they'll also feel pressure but invariably get replaced by other sponsors popular and wealthy at the time.

I cannot comprend this take Do we then let FIFA in the future charge fee /subscription service for for playing football in the street as well?

I guess we can choose not to let the kids outside and pay a susbscription service for kicking a ball around, because you know if we don't like it we don't have to buy it!

Not being rude, but you appear to be the only person on the planet outside of US corporate shils that don't have a problem with this. Diversity in opinion is our stregth but there is NO positive to this idea.

Long story short, his reaction is that FIFA didn't like the way Poppa successfully played the game against Turkey and didn't want any more of that shite against the home team and any other future opponent. Hence the board was contacted by FIFA heavies and lo and behold Australia go back to shitball. Maybe they withhold the prize money. Amazing what being 17 odd million in debt can make you do.

As a non-football man he reckons he saw and understood the difference between game 1 and the shit served up the rest of the tournament.

Now, if any one else had said that to me I would consider the possibilty, chuckle and go on my merry way. Yet from this bloke, I would seriously consider the possibility and walk away wondering how far down the rabbit hole I would like to go.

I haven't said anywhere I agree with this proposal. What I'm saying is that if people are going to be so far against this proposal then they need to put their money where their mouth is and boycott. People can protest with words all they want but until they stop giving a cent, it doesn't even give a chance of change. Boycotts happen all the time when brands go the wrong direction. Here we see FIFA stuffing up and now the next part of the narrative will happen. Hopefully it's the end of this saga.

Private equity for a tournament is hardly any different to all the club ownership we've seen over the years. Again, I don't agree with it. Those who shriek about it need to boycott in order to try to affect change but it's probably futile because they'll only be replaced by more wealthy customers and it becomes and exclusive club.

Kids have been kicking any random object around for centuries and I don't think FIFA will create such a nonsensical subscription service. Private 5 a side pitches already exist and have nothing to do with FIFA. Should they be ridiculed too?
