2027 Asian Cup

We simply don't have the depth to just discard Ryan. The Levante departure was a little surprising as Ryan rated highest for the season but there are many factors that the club and player may want something else. If it's a money thing then the ME beckons. I'm not sure where he and his young family would fancy living. MLS perhaps or being content with another Belgium gig.
I'm sorry, what?

When did this happen?

A while ago, maybe even before the World Cup?
yeah pretty odd given he was their best player or close to, and almost single handedly kept them up. Perhaps they offered him a new contract and ge rejected it hoping for a big Saudi/ME pay day

for whatever reason clubs consistently move Ryan on
I'm surprised by this one but it is a long running pattern

We don't have the depth, that is for sure. Throwing your senior team statesman under the bus for your own bad decision. That is the poppa and juric way. So fuck them both and let that be their problem. Maybe they could call up Oliver Kalac 😏.Trying to cement a first team spot at 33-34 yo should be his only concern NOT the NT. That boat has sailed and MR should now concern himself with his club career as his lifespan for good coin is fast diminishing.

Can't agree with that. Beach looked good in the World Cup and will at Troyes because we played and Troyes play ( I believe) with a deep defensive line. That completely hid his poor sweeping. Now if australia keeps playing that way - then that's fine for Beach at a NT level, ut the comments from the fA about playing a more progressive style may mean that Beah loses his protection,

He comes in and does a job. Bossed it at Copenhagen in high pressure games when needed. I'm surprised too but now another club gets to benefit from his professionalism.

Regardless of how the NT play, the supporters and the NT management have no right to MR's labour, skill and professionalism. If he manages to find a club between now and AC2027, he should concentrate on his club career instead of being part of a NT with a manager who is trigger happy to throw players under the bus. I could not imaging his prospective employer would be pleased to release him for international duty knowing full well that he will be riding the pine during the AC. Far fetched but maybe clubs that would be interested don't want to risk offering a contract to a goalkeeper for the above reason.

1–0. Revenge for the girls?
I reckon given how much the 22-26 cycle followed the 06-10 cycle we probably lose to Japan in the final

-both times Australia dramatically qualified against the 5th place south american team on pens
- both times Australia dramatically made it out of the group with a result against a strong euro opponent
- both times we went bouyant into the asian cup after a promising world cup only to bow out in the quarters to an asian powerhouse
- both times we had a pragmatic defensive minded coach for the following cycle with one of our most hated players being an attacking player who stood out defensively (holman/metcalf)
- both times said hated player scored a screamer against a european nation in the group stage
- both times we had to recover after looking like a deer in headlights against the seeded nation of the group
- both times we got 4 points in the group
- both times we got a disappointing draw against an african nation which would end up being the result to end our campaign
- both times spain won the world cup

I'm afraid the script is already written. We lose 1-0 in the final to japan as in 2011

I'll take that if it means we say thanks for your service Tony, but it's time to really have a fucking crack at how good we can actually PLAY football.

We really have been underwhelming in Asian Cups and Japan are part of the reason.

Beach was good but average against the USA.
How could he have done better?

Nothing he could have done about the own goal. Could potentially have reacted a little quicker for the second but it was chaos from a rebounding ball - he had to climb over two other players and one of them was offside.

I know I just think there was slightly poor anticipation for the first one. Maybe he comes out a little more. The second just rotten luck but many feel Ryan doesn't dive and can then catch the deflection.
