City loss to avondale works in our favour also albeit a draw would have been better

In fairness we could go for humes spot they have a very hard 4 games to finish the seasonAgree - my preference would have been a draw. We need Avondale to drop points next week and we need to continue winning to try and grab 3rd spot.
For that to occur, Hume would need to lose its next 2 matches and Avondale only pick up 1 point from its next 2 matches. Plus we would need to defeat St Albans Dinamo and Melbourne City Youth. In fairness we could go for humes spot they have a very hard 4 games to finish the season
Bc we just take what we are given!!Any idea why the cup game was put Thursday?

Most likely has to do with paramount coverage!
In the football world, you cannot just dictate what day you want to play, this is not the eighties anymore. Football is now a seven day a week sport, and at the behest of the broadcasters. We really need to start standing up for ourselves.
Thursday is a typical training night for local clubs and a huge afl game will be on at the G at the same time, thats without going into the avoidable short turnaround for the weekend.
We should have pushed hard for Wednesday night.
Every time we land ourselves in a big occasion something always has to go wrong, we lost the Aus championship final hosting at lakeside last yr cos of the athletics. We lost the blockbuster Preston game to a shitty saturday arvo timeslot, and now we get this. Feels like its never gonna click for us.
Ticket sales as of mid last week were going very poorly, hopefully the Oakleigh win sparks a late frenzy.
Was bumming on the couch on Saturday late morning channel surfing and Rocky 2 was on....... stayed to watch the whole thing just because of this post and our win...Oakleigh is a very good team, but not untouchable. We go in and play our game plan. Keep it tight at the back and try and control the midfield battle. Both teams will have chances to score. We just need to ensure that we are up for it and neutralise Lebid. Take 3 points tonight and we make a big statement that we are in the hunt for silverware.
As Adrian told Rocky in the Rocky II movie - "WIN"
It was a very interesting tactic to play 3 at the back and BOTH Cox and Painter-Andrews as wingbacks... I actually quite liked it because it gave Rama, Marko and Tommy ALL a cahnce to venture forward when presented with a chance and knowing there was plenty of coverage... Led to some interesting movement and showed that Pasuali and Retre can work very well together. Yoo was a great goal and Bul is getting pretty close to showing what he can do up top... We are not quite there yet but Friday night was finals football for me.. I havnet seen anyone else force Oakleigh into a low block at home. That was a big win tonight given the context of our season and strengthening our position in the top 6.
Oakleigh is a very good team. They started stronger in the first half and were more on top early on. We steadied things from the 20th-25th minute mark and finished stronger in that first half. Juach should have scored that one on one chance late in the first half. He’s clearly missing match fitness and that striker’s performance touch. He was much better today, and was involved in our first goal in the second half by heading the ball to Yoo for running into space and scoring a great goal.
Yoo had another great match. He was everywhere and involved in all build ups. His movement and forward drives caused all sorts of trouble for the Oakleigh defence. Yuki was also amazing and was running rings around the Oakleigh players. Retre continues to show why he’s been a great addition. Simply all class. Ramazani - not enough words can describe how great he was once again. Solid defensively again and has formed a great partnership with Jankovic.
I don’t understand why those late substitutions were made. You can’t risk matches against the likes of Oakleigh with players they won’t help. Lackay was tripping over himself. The other substitute nearly cost us an equaliser goal at the death. Just ridiculous stuff.
The injuries of Lampard, Mikkola and Menelaou has exposed our lack of depth on the bench. Apart from Nkwomo and Swibel, we had nothing. Players like Pope, Leech and Dovison should have retained for the bench.
One of the other benefits tonight was the draw between Heidelberg and CS George Cross. That means we jump over Heidelberg and create a 4 point gap from CS George George. Given Preston is facing an almost certain point deduction (they had a suspended -3 point deduction already), then South could aim to finish at least fourth. More importantly it gives us a little bit of breathing space as well.
On a side note, the new grandstand looked good. It’s probably big enough for their needs.
Just remind me - is he a midfielder or winger ? Its been a while since I've seen him play.Nice to see Skapoulas back, i rate him highly
Midfielder or winger doesnt really matter end of day he was more talent than Nepo hahaJust remind me - is he a midfielder or winger ? Its been a while since I've seen him play.
