As much as I'd like to cap all these guys, we have to realise most of them will do a Volpato and wait to see how their careers progress first. I imagine Skoko and Chipperfield will make a decision during the coming World Cup cycle, though whether they switch in time for the Asian Cup is another story. Chipperfield could definitely bring something different out wide for the tournament in Saudi Arabia. Paul Okon Jr. might also look at switching after the World Cup for the chance to link up with his brother in midfield. Arena is the one I don't see committing anytime soon—he'll probably wait until post-2030.

Overy already been in the squad for a friendly just wasnt selected so his heart is there just need to be smart and cap before scotland sniff around ala Dykes.

As far as the others are concerned, it doesnt appear theres been any attempt to cap them yet!

Only really Arena and the Chelsea lad i can see as holding out for italy or england. For Skoko, G Okon and Chipperfield youd imagine they have a big pull emotionally to play for the roos given their fathers.

Chipperfield is already 22 and been in the swiss league for awhile now. If they rated him youd imagine they would have capped him already. They also have their strongest squad ever so i doubt hes getting capped soon, as such the socceroos could be a big opportunity for him. Hes in their under21 squad and becomes ineligible in mid 2027 after after the under 21 euros are held, so perhaps he'll stay with them until then and then change allegiance after.
 
We've learned the hard way and wasted plenty of chances to cap players who are obviously a big chance at making it. We've got to cap them in A games.

Too long have we gone with a senior 11 against Bangladesh when we should be sorting our future. This isn't someone with a weak case but many of the very solid names listed by others.

Especially since (before the incident on Anzac Bridge) Cristian Volpato actually benefitted from playing at the World Cup. Now when he comes back either Sassuolo will play him more or another club will sign him. If he was just waiting for the Azzurri, he’d be probably stuck on the bench.
 
Here’s a big question for everyone: if all the dual internationals we had played for us, what would your Asian Cup squad look like as of now?

It doesn’t help too many managers are chasing short term results, you need a TD setting the tone for the manager to follow.

Not sure what structure the FA had for Arnie as well, I always felt it’s too much risk giving the manager the power to do what they want.

Even in club football they also have structures the manager must follow from the club philosophy and the player strategy unlike the old days where the manager had the power to impose whatever they want.

Agree that we need a technical director at Football Australia to keep the head coaching hierarchy for both the Socceroos and Matildas in check as opposed to having Heather Garriock give Popovic free rein to decide the selection policy which means that we are losing promising dual international prospects to other associations.

If a-league clubs have director of football or TDs there is no excuse for the national federation to not have one as well, agree!

Ok i think Dykes 1000% would have been selected and would have played minutes over Tete Yengi amd possibly pushing Mo Toure for 1st pick.

I think Segecic would have got selected and got minutes over Hrustic and Mabil.

Triantis would have made the train on squad but not picked.

The young ones who are still undetermined i genuinely dont think have been approached (bar Overy who waant selected), so i dont think we made any attempt to select. Of those i would have only picked maybe Arena over Yengi and Chipperfield over Leckie/Vellupilay/Hrustic for the WC.

I agree for the most part but Lyndon Dykes isn’t near Mo Touré’s level. Scotland fans even complain about him being “shit”.

I agree but Toure took a knock in the US game and then Popa turnedcl to Irankunda and Yengi at CF. Dykes would have been the striker had we had him in the team. Especially when playing against a low block like against Paraguay.

Triantis is probably the one that would have been perfect. Originally a RB, then CB then holding midfielder. Did all three easily.
