The Australian Championship 🇦🇺🏆

I agree having lights should be a prerequisite but doesn’t Avondale’s ground not have them and was approved for use in the aus championship somehow. They played their games there last season and they had to be during the day which is easier in a summer comp with midday kick off times as the standard …
Yeah but its not ideal.. some dockerty/ Aus cup games had to be moved to other venues for Avondale.... of we want to take ourswelves seriously then lights should be mandatory pre req for any top tier grounds of the championship atleast.

They just got a 1/2 mill grant from state gov to fix the lights... hope they dont spend it on snacks.

True, however for example the Australia Cup semi final with Apia v Marconi was played in the early afternoon. Actually alot of the games were played at 1:00pm for reasons that still baffle me.
They ALL were.. it was the 30 pieces of silver deal the FA made with the APL ... Now that they have kissed and made up watch this year's Championship matches be played at 11.30pm on a Wednesday.

will be a very good indicator as to what the future of the comp holds from an FA perspective!! From a south perspecrive we should do everything in our pulling power to make sure we get evening games imo.. if there is any negotiation left to be had that is... lol

Nah I reckon go the other way, this time I want Marconi to play Moreton city excelsior in the morning. I told ya, be creative with it, carve out a niche, go with the under 8s style 9 am kick off. As you say could also do a Monday or Tuesday to make extra sure you’re not clashing with the a league

Sounds like there might be a quiet agreement between the SA clubs, where whichever team wins the league to represent SA, the other SA clubs might send their top players to that club for the tournament.

I'm not sure if this means all clubs are joining in, or maybe just the clubs that were interested during the EOI phase (West Torrens Birkalla + Metrostars + Campbelltown + Playford + possibly Adelaide City + West Adelaide). Could almost be a state team!

Interesting! A proper league H&A format would more or less result in this - concentration of local talent into that state's NSD club(s). If the SA clubs go ahead with this, it will be good to see how far they progress.

Nsw qualification spot looking likely to be either Rockdale or Sutherland. Both would be fitting candidates imo. As I said in the npl thread as much as it was a credit to spirit for qualify on merit last time, will be good to see a more established club with better facilities and more support make it this time, both Rockdale and Sutherland fit that bill. The two clubs play each other in a few weeks time which could go a long way to deciding who takes the spot. Also as mentioned on the npl thread, Sutherland a rare example of a club in this country pre dating the post ww2 migration boom, Rockdale obviously affiliated with the Macedonian community

Would love to see Adelaide City Qualify.

NSL Nostalgia.
They’re generally usually there or there abouts in SA comps, just in the last few years they’ve been getting pipped at the post/falling just short of the national stage etc. Again, no disrespect to metrostars as with spirit, they’re obviously doing a lot right, but would be good to see a more establish club on the national stage
