High Volpato Voltage

I think Volpato lacks game sense ATM. Initially, he did well against Paraguay, but then they often had 3 defenders Squeezing him shortly after he received the ball.

He nearly always tried to dribble or ball carry, and was easily dispossessed after the first 15 mins where he was very effective.

He needs to pass the ball on more frequently, and keep them guessing.

Moreover, Volpato didn’t look over his shoulder when he was facing his own goal - to scan the field of play before he received the ball. His teammates in the Roos, the same age and younger, seem to have better awareness of the opposition players around them, as though they’ve played more football.

Hence, he was often tackled by a Paraguayan he couldn’t see.

Yeah was weird see another team swarm one of our players usually they just sit off em wait for mistake.

I don't mind him being dispossessed.. it was good to see O'Neill work hard to recover for him but also Cristian worked hard to get it back when he did lose it.

I don't care if you lose the ball it's the reaction that counts.

Volpato has created more than most in our team from minimal game time. The cut back to Irvine was our best chance v Paraguay. It's not unsurprising he is still forming combinations with his team mates given how new he is to the team. I don't think this is game sense but building chemistry.

He has a bit to learn .. but the mere fact that any opposition is double teaming one of our players is heartening.
 
He tried too much but I don’t mind that.
Who does anything like him but BOS.
Long overdue having players as such no point nick picking - even the better players lose ball.

Your right he’s only played minutes with his team mates - much to learn but we’ll take it hands down.
Great to have a player who good at 1v1’s and can hold the ball as well.
He did that nice flick back into play high ball that was going out.
Irvine picked up the loose ball it was like meant to be.

If you don't let creative players cook then how could they expect to create a chance if they not willing to take risks? To be more honest we need more on that regard especially in midfield going forward.

It was refreshing to watch a Socceroo attacker play like that.
 
Volpato and Bos could with game time be a great combo but in the Paraguay game some pundits felt that they sometimes occupied the same space and Aussie Scout also alluded to this in his excellent analysis of that game.Playing together for a few games would sort this out but for this game I would play Metcalfe at RWB with Volpato as the inverted RW and switch Bos back to LWB with Irankunda on the same side and Toure as central striker.If Toure not able to play 90 minutes ( is there something going on there?)start with Velupillay in that position and drum it into him when he recognises the triggers to press.He has the pace to worry deefenders.Yengi's size could also be used late in the match.
Volpato needs to be working on his set pieces and everyone in the team needs lots of penalty taking practice( Jedinak is the man for this).
