I think people are right to be excited. The potential for these guys is way higher than any previous world cup squad. But at the moment they are young and it is still potential. We are up against teams with older guys who are in their prime.
It should temper expectations of results though. And more importantly it is why we shouldn't be thinking in terms of only results, particularly results at the WC, to determine if Popa should continue as coach. Because in terms of results, both in qualifying directly and by beating Turkey, he has already over achieved.
Well said!
Even with dual national pressure, the quantity of quality coming through, is phenomenal.
Young players who have not been in the senior Roo framework yet, have immense talent, depending on their club scenarios, which always go wrong for some.
Leonard, Younis, Sicluna, Taylor, Adams, the new 16 yo midfielder for SFC, Bozinovski, Dobson, Youlley, Badolato, Bennie, the former AU striker in the USA, Mehmeti, and his big Melb City teammate striker, et al, have not been mentioned in the senior Roo frame - yet.
We have established Roos - Beach, Okon Jr, Volpato, Circati, Iran, Mo Toure, Bos and Herrington at a very young age.
Hopefully the talented Teague, Arzani, Farrell, get their club scenarios back on track, after wasting a year or more.
