Socceroos vs USA 2026 World Cup match thread 🇦🇺 🇺🇸

I really want Aus to finish first, as that way their R32 game is in San Francisco. I’ve got conditional tickets to the R32 game (I.e., if Aus qualify for R32 I will receive tickets to their game), and the other destination possibilities for R32 are Dallas (2nd place) or NYC, Boston and Kansas City (3rd place). As I’m on the west coast now watching the matches in Vancouver, Seattle and SF, returning to SF for R32 is easy. Getting to the other locations might be more problematic.

I am calling BS on Pulisic.

He would have gone straight into the cryo bath after the game and is as good as 100%.

Exactly the foxing tactics that the US prides themselves on.

He will be in the starting lineup for sure.

We are lucky that Popa always bases his selections and tactics on the worst possible scenarios so we are covered anyway.

I'm hoping we win and top the group specifically so you get the tickets.

Don't forget your orange wig!

I am strangely insanely jealous of you being at the WC while at the same time being totally satisfied with not being there.

QLDers know these tactics

we once had a player die the day before a match only to suit up and knock some blues over the next day

Ha! We know these tactics indeed. I have seen Adelaide players die in the penalty box only to arise soon after. Sometimes thrice in one game. :devilish:

That should start up the right level of antagonism and competitive animosity leading into the next Australia Cup and Aleague season.

And as always important not to post in the proper threads at the same time.

Too many people sharing common ground on this thread. It just isn't football.

Come on you Roos!

Pfffft....

That's an old tactic. Am I right Aragorn... and the Paths of the Dead?
This should be in the Book thread.

Double bloody standards I tell you...

Important Note: This was totally in humour and without a hint of malice or serious intent. I know moderation is a serious and sometimes sensitive aspect of the forum and I have no issues with how it is being handled.

There's a fair bit of hype after the US's opening win but I don't think they're all that.

A few things they do on the pitch is still Tier 2 international level (as we are). Their decision -making, execution of passes, reading the play, speed of thought and taking opportunities is not top tier that they need to be feared.

We've shown we can sit back and play on the counter, but I don't we have too against them. We can take the game to them and be solid at at the back.

The lack of respect from some of the US pundits has been disappointing, it reminds me of the Uruguay's divine right to the World Cup part in 2005 and we know the rest....

My take on how we need to play the game is this, we need to look at the deep runs the USA are going to do to us, Turkey had too many ball to feet players but didn't pressure our defence especially our centre backs with runs in behind no wonder Souttar looked comfortable out there.
The USA destroyed Paraguay with those deep runs especially from Tillman (AM) and McKennie (CM) makings runs between the defender and fullback of Paraguay which means they will try and pull our centre backs away to isolate Souttar as the middle centre back given we are playing a back 5, Balagun will be a different challenge too if he's given service like in the last game I don't think Turkey had a striker to test our centre backs if we are being honest.
Dest and Pulisic pinned their opponent's full backs with their 1v1s so our wingbacks they need to stay focused but also we need to support them if they get isolated if they get pinned back it will be a long day for them.
Given the game will be played in the heat its a premium we keep the ball for more than 5 passes and at worse we need to win some fouls so we can relieve the pressure from our defence, the USA pressing will be important so we have to keep the ball quite well and hope the USA will drop back into some mid block if they want to transition us if the heat becomes a issue.

Our transition is good so we have to take our chances once again, clearly we won't be creating alot so like last game being clinical is very important, I wonder Popa will surprise us again with changes to the starting 11 clearly we didn't expect the likes of Beach, Okon Jr and Irankunda to start I wonder if Popa has something up he's sleeve.

I will honestly take a draw but it will be tough to win so we will see, hopefully they can surprise us again.

I don't know why we are so concerned about what American so-called pundits are saying about our team.In all sports the Seppos talk themselves up before the actual contest and trash talk rivals. We can use it as motivation but really don't worry about it and do the talking on the field and the scoreboard.
