FIFA 2026 WC - US Dumb shit

I think a lot of celebs are like this unfortunately. Look at all the celebs talking about Palestine (Cate Blanchett, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Angelina Jolie, Zara Larsson, Dua Lipa, Macklemore, Jenna Ortega, Pedro Pascal, Chapelle Roan, Mark Ruffalo, even The Weeknd, the list goes on). None of them have any connection to Palestine or know anything about it, so why haven’t they talked about, say, Assyria? Why aren’t they as vocal about Ukraine as they are about Palestine? Why prioritise talking about one issue over another? Same goes for the pro-Israeli celebs (though most of them are Jewish). This is why I admire those who take neutral stances or who actually put time and effort into their talking points and donations.

Selective political outrage...

Evolutionary psychology plays in here and you get status-seeking celebs broadcasting their virtues to earn applause from their reference group.

However, it’s not unique to the elites because most people exhibit selective outrage in their own little way, but fame + social media definitely magnifies it. Audiences bear responsibility too because by treating celebs as moral authorities despite them having major expertise gaps in governance, economics, or history.

??? So you are happy with US customs being able to effectively disadvantage 3/4 of the teams at the world cup because of who they do and dont give a VISA to?

I mean Foster is a goose, but he is NOT wrong here.
It’s insane that it’s a week before the World Cup starts and Iran have still not been given their visas for Mexico and the US. (As of yesterday if reports are correct).

I thought they had secured their training base in Mexico at least?? FFS its gonna be a schemozzle...

Sincerely to yourself and ANYONE else travelling. don't fuck around with TSA or any cusoms agents there, It could end up costing you an insane amount of money.

Exactly. Greta Thunberg (who in general is usually seen as nuts) is another example that I think I missed. Went on a flotilla to Gaza but won’t speak about Iran and Sudan. Even Senator Fatima Payman once said that Iran’s human rights abuses were just Western propaganda.

Meanwhile these poor schlebs just want a 25 cent an hour wage increase and FIFA to NOT be able to report them to ICE...

These are the type of people I’d be worried about. I think the players will get in, otherwise how does Trump make money? We all know how much he loves money. He’s a multi-billionaire who was a businessman, celebrity, media personality and mogul before his presidency after all.

FFS. The anthems will now have the entire squads on the pitch fscing off across the centre circle
Let me guess,, the centre circle will have a coca cola logo superimposed over it during the anthems? AND the anthems will all have to be sung in English so Donnie can make sure nobody is mocking him.

The German article said no flags but a fifa logo only but other articles have official quotes that national flags will of course be there.

Saying the circle and looking at each other brings unity. The line and being separate is a way for each team to have their own personal bit.

Its just another "Americanism" brought in to try and sell the sport to their country.... Nothing has meaning or tradition anymore... Death by a thousand cuts rather than by beheading.

That could get interesting given many aren’t aware of the wartime history of the songs lol. Take La Marseillaise (“The Marseillaise”) the French national anthem, for example.

“(Verse 1)
Let’s go, children of the Fatherland,
The day of glory has arrived!
Against us, tyranny’s
Bloody banner is raised!
Tyranny’s bloody banner is raised!
Do you hear in the countryside,
The roar of those ferocious soldiers?
They’re coming right into your arms
To slit your sons’ and your wives’ throats!

(Chorus, x2)
To arms, citizens,
Form your battalions,
March on, march on!
May impure blood
Water our furrows!”

Yeah, maybe we should stick to the original languages lol.

Was at a conference quite a few years ago with some colleagues one from England one from the US and me and the English bloke were trying to explain to the Yank that the English and the French have been traditional enemies for centuries and that the French Army is probably the most battle hardened and victorious of all time... He was adamant that the English HATE the Americans because of the Revolution... should have seen the look on his face when the Pommie guy asked "what revolution?" hahahahah They really have a skewed picture of their place in the world.

Well I'm not sure who really put these ideas forward. If FIFA then it's an international group but it's a ridiculous notion about trying to show unity etc. The face off is the worst part. Stolen from the A League.

Ice Hockey has anthems face to face.

What a crock! Is the next step for lining up the entire squad to eventually push for a gridiron-like situation, where you have unlimited interchange and different players go on and off depending on whether a team is attcking/defending, for corners kicks, a designated penalty taker coming off the bench just to take spot kicks, etc.

"FIFA remains confident that the updated anthem ceremony will become one of the defining visual moments of the 2026 tournament, symbolizing unity, respect, and the global spirit of the game." A quote from one online article.

Fuck off, FIFA are just pandering to the USA again.

They reckon a lot of fans are getting denied entry. I read articles on Morocco and Scottish fans getting denied entry
Vast majority getting in. System glitches to be clarified on the ground while people with breaches, warrants and convictions are going to have a tough time.

Embolo's visa situation was to do with an outstanding court case for assault.
