I was more so referencing how people on social media said that nobody would wanna watch Auckland versus Sydney and seeing how even some rival fans were desperate for Sydney to lose.
Hands up, I was one of them . Egg on face. Very good TV ratings for a game at that time (6:10 on east coast is just an awkward time slot) and only one Australian team.

I still have no idea how this game increased the usual viewership from 50k to 550k, other than to suggest the reported ratings are not in the slightest bit reliable (both the weekly 50k figures and the 550k figure for the GF).

The game even got a mention in the Sydney Morning Herald! Huge.

And they're racing in the A League Grand Final. They jump in unison and it’s Auckland off the inside rail showing early intent, pushing forward in the opening exchanges like a seasoned sprinter finding the lead at the 1200 metres. Sydney FC settles just off the pace, measured and composed, stalking like a proven galloper waiting to pounce when the tempo lifts. The midfield battle tightens approaching the first turn, crunching tackles flying in like elbows in a crowded straight from the hacks, thugs and panel beaters that are Auckland. The sheep shagger look to press the advantage with waves of attacking pressure, but Sydney’s backline holds firm, absorbing it like a veteran stayer.

Down the back straight they thunder, and Sydney FC begins to edge closer, easing into rhythm as the game opens up, a slick passing move slices through midfield and suddenly they’re looming large, within striking distance. Auckland responds though, lifting the tempo again, the crowd riding every touch like a punter sensing value in the final furlong. Into the home stretch now, legs tiring, hearts pounding — and it’s anyone’s race as both sides throw everything at it. Late drama ! A decisive moment! A bit of space and the player is in the clear too take a shot the shadows of full-time ! And here comes the arsey deflection on the inside! The finish is met with a roar that would shake any grandstand. What a contest that would put any veteran football fan to sleep as Auckland are the most unpopular winners of the league in it's history.

And like Austin Powers said, " And I'm Spent "

So does that mean that the grand final accounted for 20% of the season's total audience??

In other news, it's awesome that Sports Tonight is returning, although not it's own dedicated show. But how damn annoying that it's returning straight after the A-League seasons are over!! The one media outlet that would cover it! Almost a conspiracy haha.

Overall, I think the partnership between A-Leagues and P+ has been mutually beneficial.....

Paramount+ gained a reliable live sports driver for subscribers, while the A-Leagues got better exposure and record streaming audiences.

It might not be beating peppa pig on the old fashioned FTA but in the world of paid streaming, where it actually matters it's doing fine.. ..

I feel just the days of old Morgan gallop polls surveys posted by whoever all these ratings by providers let alone their customers are no where near the accuracy they present.
Barring the exceptions of finals that you could see are packed remainder of season well here there.
