I think borello stays because there are only 2 other strikers

Beach probably goes, poor form at the back end of the season

Degenek can go since we have both burgess and souttar that can cover ccm

One of boyle, mabile and vellupilay will go

One more, not sure who
I'd have CF depth as Toure > Irankunda > Yengi >>>>>>> Boyle >>>>>>> Borello.

Random but could Tiago Quintal be a smokey for the Asian Cup?
Could depend on the coach but the tournament should be taken with the utmost seriousness. This is our Euros. If he's in strong form then maybe. Despite most of us wanting to move players on we're at mex for depth and competition now

I can't see Hrustic being left out. We're so thin on mids and I don't care if we okay just 2. A red and an injury then we're really thin. We've got to have the cover with Trewin, Metcalfe, Hrustic and Leckie as the other 4 could dwindle quickly. Devlin must be included.

Hrustic will make it. He's our only naturally creative midfielder. Which is a big mark against Popovic's selection policy with the team.

This forum probably documents the Popovic inconsistencies more than any journalist. He'll say it's about this and that and the pick players totally opposite to those prerequisites.

Why take a creative midfielder that doesn't create. I don't care what he does at club level, he just doesn't deliver for the NT. Reminds me of Pulisic. The guy who hasn't scored for a goal for the USMNT in 18 months when he scored against Jamaica is suddenly going to come good. I don't believe it with Pulisic and I certainly don't with Hrustic - He last scored for Australia 2 years ago and his last assist was before that.

Ideally we need a creative midfielder who is good at chance creation and can act as a playmaker in the Socceroos playing list for our World Cup campaign, and currently the only options we have are Kai Trewin and Cam Devlin after Popovic made the mistake of culling Alex Robertson from the pre-camp.

Jason Geria’s definitely one I’d consider cutting. He just doesn’t play at a high enough level. Preferably I’d want smokeys/young guns from the top of the A-League to be the lowest level we pick for the Socceroos and Matildas. Sky’s the limit from there but it’s also why it’s hard to justify picking John Iredale (even though I think he can play at a higher level).
Silly club moves and injuries haven't helped Iredale but his scoring rate shows K2 is too easy.

Flown across for Indonesia away aaa his last feature. Again the coaches reverted back to the old unreliables preventing anyone new from kicking on. It's endemic.

Tewin and Devlin have concrete boots and can't land a pass 10 metres away. We're going to see Circati take initiative with long passes.

The selection policy across both the Socceroos and Matildas has always been flawed but Tony Popovic's decisions on who to cull from the pre-camp and eventually who ends up making the final playing list only serve to reiterate this.

Some weren't even in camp that long. I reckon Caceres was glad just to get a contribution in and is professional enough to take it but some like Bennie and Stensness were called in for a matter of days which shows Popovic had probably made up his mind. Robertson will be rightly annoyed.

Paraguay have done this on home soil but I don't think any other nations have flown that many players in and we're the wildest geographically located too.

I would drop
Boyle
Borrello
Mabil
Beach

I think Popa will drop
Gauci
Yengi
Devlin
Rowles
Yep unfortunately that is my prediction too. Yengi would have a lot to prove but so little time.

A CB has to be dropped too and I think Geria, Trewin would be perceived as our RWB depth, hence the lack of need for Rowles.

And he has seemingly never been a huge Devlin fan.

I mean I don't disagree. But now Hrustic is the only attacking mid option left I think he has to be selected. He was good v Curacao I guess. He does have a key dead ball or pass in him. I doubt he has a goal though.

I know he scored but no thanks based on Curacao performance.
Irankunda aside no one else has the sleakness. Mabil can roam across the front 3 and use different parts of his foot to create stuff. I'd drop Boyle among the 3 in question. Leckie keeps getting forgotten but he should be gone too.

This Mexico game should give us some insights.

Putting 10 on both to score in the world cup match now.
