The Melbourne Victory Thread

Diles has done a good job i think overall.
In the context of this season, can't really complain too much.
Finished 1 win off 2nd place and less than 3 wins off 1st.
Finals result was disappointing, but thought the performance was pretty good.
I'd say he's done enough to at least be able to negotiate another season.
The only chance he doesn't is if they have a bigger name already lined up.

Yeah not a pen 😵‍💫💩

MV dont have the money to chase a high profile coach. Diles has done a good job i think overall. Unless they want to give Anastasiadis a chance i wouldnt budge.
I'd prefer Anastasiadis.

I was “Diles in” up until Saturday night, but I think I have changed my mind now.

If you look at our record during the season, there were so many games we dropped points in. We really should have finished top 2 and not had to have played an elimination final to begin with.

And then on Saturday night his in game management was poor. He took our 2 biggest attacking threats off 3 minutes after conceding, WTF?

Don’t misunderstand me, I think MVFC will retain him. But I think Saturday night’s result really put things into context for me. We are not a club who is owned and run by ambitious people. It feels like a wasted season.

So did I. I'm not the biggest fan of Diles but if you move him on you hope it will be for someone obviously better. I'm not sure Milicic is.
Not sure if the tactical system Ante Milicic is going to bring to Melbourne Victory next season will work especially since he'll have a playing list with a completely different skillset to what he was used to at the Matildas and China women's national team, and he might not be able to adapt the style of play he brings to an A-League Men side that's supposed to be a contender for finals and will be in Asian continental competition next year.

Melbourne Victory will be playing in AFC Champions League Two next season, receiving the direct slot for the competition after the AFC advised Football Australia that Heidelberg United are ineligible under AFC regulations despite them meeting the mandatory criteria set out for club licensing purposes.

Diles to Milicic is a sideways move at best imo.
I'd say it may even be a step down in some ways.
I remember his football at Macarthur being about as boring as it gets.
I feel like Diles earned another year.
I can see him going to another A-League club and doing well. He might be a good option for the Roar. One thing Diles did well this season was handle the pressure, of which there was a lot, especially early on. The guy kept it together. He didn't lose the players' confidence. He didn't pickup a bunch of reds. He didn't lash out and blame others. This season could have easily gone much worse.
