World Cup 2026 Australia thread

Definitely as the offensive Rwb. I was more thinking as depth and someone more defensive against attacking lw.
I like Panta but I worry about the step up. I think we need a defensive minded RWB as an option. We may need to start them v Turkey. I think Popovic will pick Geria or Trewin. They can also be back-up RCB. I'd still pick Bennie who can cover those right sided roles - including as an impact sub.

Neither fill me with any conifence as RWB.

Based on likely squad, we can expect Ryan and Behich to join Cahill and Mlligan in the esteemed group of players that have been in 4 World Cup squads.
This would be Behich's third. Maty should build his total up to 13 games while Irvine on 7 can tally more to go ahead of a number of big names on 7.

Just checking in. No, I'm still not ready to face Iran again.

It would be disappointing that world events would overshadow it on an international reporting level while Australian media certainly recalls the disaster of 97.

Decent meme quality and I can't wait for Italians to watch and see Circati. They're well aware of who he is I think but then the hilarity when Italiano's name flashes up the the right of him. Australia have a player called Italiano!

Eight players will arrive in Sarasota this week for the Socceroos’ pre-training camp: Harry Souttar (Leicester City), Hayden Matthews (Portsmouth), Anthony Caceres (Macarthur FC), Mitchell Duke (Macarthur FC), Brandon Borrello (Western Sydney), Nick D’Agostino (Brisbane Roar), Nishan Velupillay (Melbourne Victory) and Mathew Leckie (Melbourne City).

WTF

We can have around 50 players in this camp so I'm not surprised by the names, although I will be shocked if more than half of those named make the 26.

Am surprised Borrello makes the top 50 on form, Matthews is fair enough, the age profile and recent injury history of some of others though. What's the point unless they are good odds to make it, Popa is missing a trick.

Same. These are all guys who featured in past squads under Popovic. Leckie the exception.
