World Cup 2026 Australia thread

The Western left is full of hypocrisy and it’s why I just can’t support them. I don’t care for either side of Israel/Palestine but the UN condemns Israel all the time but never condemns anyone else, not even Russia for genociding Ukrainians.
Final political comment then back to football. Well, the German public broadcaster was going very hard on Ukraine around 2013-14 in their news reports regarding their attacks on separatists groups. Changed their tune pretty quickly.

I’ve been thinking about what would count as a pass mark for this WC. Would it be
- Rnd of 32
- Rnd of 16
- 4 points in the group
- at least one win in the group.

I think a bare minimum pass needs to be getting out of the group, anything less is a failure. I know we’ve only done it twice, but we have more talent than the 2014, 2022 and arguably 2018 teams. Additionally, it’s easier now than it had ever been in a 48 team WC where 2/3 teams make it to the first knockout round and it’s a round of 32.

I still wouldn’t bet on Poppa’s team making it.

I think it's fair enough but I also enjoy the challenge of squads needing rotation and discipline. That's not to say refs get very card happy late in games.

It'd suck even more to finish 3rd and not advance. So much football to come but I think one win puts many teams in an alright position. oping teams with two weak teams lose to the stronger two then draw together giving themselves one point each.

Bookmarked this one as it considers H2H. Guarantee you'll have prominent types still using GD.

Just playing around with it. Can you imagine the spanner in the works if Qatar beat Switzerland? Group A seems very balanced. Do South Africa turn up? Will South Korea deliver? Czech Rep will be robust. Tight group.

For every win we get, draws are better elsewhere. Hopefully Ivory Coast and Ecuador draw and then Germany beats them both.

Escaping with an early win against Turkey who are notoriously slow starters for tournaments would be a huge bonus.

Turkey are so enigmatic. Here's hoping they don't live up to the hype. Maybe we need to provoke Turkey and Paraguay into doing stupid stuff while reminding Irankunda to behave.

That's why I want Farrell in the May camp. He can niggle Nestory in camp and Popa can ingrain it in his brain. TBH the USA are the more likely to do something stupid, they constantly shirt pull, take out support players in back play and accost the ref. They get away with it as the whale in CONCACAF and in friendlies but will find World Cup refs a lot more stringent.

It'd be nice for us to use guile and goad a team for a change. I was pleasantly surprised at Redmaynes shitfuckery v Peru. Shows a maturing. We're too honest and overt sometimes.

As a defensive RWB I'm struggling to think of one that I rate. I can see a utility type player and Italiano as the offensive RWB. I suppose I'm looking at having options in how we set up. I suppose Karacic is the closest but I don't rate him either and he has his own injury problems
Pantazopoulos, very solid defensively and an upgrade on any other previously tried centre back at RWB/LWB offensively.

Even after how terrible Wanderers were this season, we’re still considering capping these guys before they actually leave the club?
