ALM TV Ratings

what else actually gets spoken about of note at these meetings?

I wasn't there, but I do know people who were. It's mainly Vuck stuff of course. The club is claiming they are trying to find better solutions to engage the active fans, especially when it comes to dealing with the police (but we hear that every year). Adelaide away was also a big problem in January with many complaints... primarily Adelaide United not providing us with enough seats and the cops/seccos not particularly helping.

But probably the big news that is going to go down well on this forum, is that it's pretty much a forgone conclusion that Western United will return next season.

Interesting to hear WU will be back in so quick. Victory should be focusing on their own backyard and not just the active fans - their fall off needs to be addressed

Any suggestion of a new team to even up the comp?

I notice nothing on Canberra for ages.

If you were to guess - what do you think the average viewership would be on Paramount Plus per game?

A-League season average on Fox Sports:

2005-2006
– 42,054
2006-2007 – 55,465
2007-2008 – 69,745
2008-2009 – 63,792
2009-2010 – 54,018
2010-2011 – 44,968
2011-2012 – 65,789
2012-2013 – 74,659
2013-2014 – 65,109
2014-2015 – 59,749
2015-2016 – 55,193
2016-2017 – 63,422
2017-2018 – 51,169

Do you think they would be similar to these numbers?

I'd say they would be lower as more people had foxtel back then compared to Paramount. Also from what I remember SBS were getting better ratings then 10 for ALM on FTA games but like 10 they were dumped onto there 2nd channel due to low viewership numbers.

It depends on how you look at it. A-League wasn't on FTA until 2013-2014.

Last Saturday we had 53,000 viewers on FTA. Surely there would have been half that amount (at a minimum) watching on Paramount Plus considering the demographics of AL fans? I know it's only 1 game, so its not the best example to compare with a full season average... Last Saturday night was a fairly dreary and meek game for neutrals, but highly likely would have been well above the highest average year on Foxtel in 2012-13 if you were to combine FTA and streaming numbers.

I'd say they would be lower as more people had foxtel back then compared to Paramount.

Paramount have 2.74 million subscribers as of December 2025. One of the fastest growing streaming services and they target the younger demographic. Foxtel currently has 4.66 million subscribers, only 1.5 million have Kayo (as of early 2026). in 2013 (when the A-League peaked in average viewers), Foxtel had 2.5 million subscribers, which is slightly less than what Paramount Plus currently have now.

So yeah, it depends on how you wanna cherry pick the data, but I would argue you are wrong.

I think we all know that whether the ratings are good or not will come down to the next TV deal. And with how quiet the APL have been and how the dire the crowds and TV ratings have been I’d say the ALM will be back on struggle street cum next season. Why would the APL force a strict $3m salary cap for next season if they didn’t know wot money was coming from the next TV deal.

I think that's fair

There was a lot of data before Christmas stating that TV/Streaming numbers were up by close to 50% year on year.

You could look at it half glass full by suggesting there is a delay in making the announcement because the APL are trying to squeeze a few extra dollars out of P+

Happy to stand corrected, but I'm pretty sure this was rumoured 12 or so months ago... More TV money could change that.

That data was from Paramount and used b APL to make it appear they' were actually achieving something. very difficult to believe, given the crowd stats.
