Australian news and politics.

he deserves a bullet - no wonder the other soldiers have so may menta issues if he made them do this

He was only a corporal- why are officers managing to avoid any blame?

At the end of the day it is officers who issue unit orders and not corporals.

It's a bit like the Breaker Morant situation- other ranks were making up their own rules and there were no responsible officers on the spot.

Many think that the Breaker was scapegoated for doing something that many others were doing- just because he was Australian.

Maybe BRS is some sort of scapegoat himself- because he was a loud arrogant bastard and didn't vote labor.

Great timing to create yet more division in the country just before Anzac Day.

During the defamation court case, his commanding officer testified against him. His commanding officer was never able to get the military witnesses to testify. The officer corps knew but they couldn't break the code of silence. BTW his commanding officer is a bloke named Andrew Hastie.
And as a son of an able seaman, I am quite well aware that military orders cannot be disobeyed without consequences. Let the judicial process proceed.

And that is why Stokes supported Angus.

20 fellow soldiers testified against him.

Women testified against him.

Anyway, the Sydney lebs will conduct their own trial in prison.

Funny this could have all gone away quietly if he hadn't try to sue for defamation. He just opened himself up to further and more intense scrutiny. Strategically a real dumb fuck move in hindsight. Also this really makes Kerry Stokes look like an even bigger dick considering he was funding his legal defence. Also look at Gina the Miner ( I don't understand why he was arrested? ) and ex PM John Howard (this will tug at the heartstrings of millions ) . What a fucking pack of amoral arseholes.

The narrative has shifted from 'he's a true aussie war hero, not a piece of shit!' to 'Ok, maybe he was a piece of shit but blame his superiors'.

Yeah, because he plays into the nostagic vision of the simple masses who these billionaire types can sell an easy message to.

I clicked on grazor's youth development twitter link and was unfortunate enough to see this.

It’s unfortunate to see that Drew Pavlou has jumped on the “BRS was a war hero” train. I’ve really supported his investigations into NDIS fraud (though really it’s mostly Pete Zogoulas aka Pete Zed with Drew just supporting Pete along the way).

If BRS has a Greek or Serbian surname, would your hatred be so intense?

The problem is of course the Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) is widely regarded as a world-class elite special forces unit, often ranked among the top Tier 1 special operations forces globally alongside units like the British SAS, US Delta Force and the French Commandement des Operations Speciales or COS....

To.attain level 1 status amongst your international special forces peers takes decades of working in some of the world's most hostile environments.

The Ben Roberts-Smith case has exposed serious issues within the SASR during those Afghanistan deployments (2005–2016), including a broader Brereton Inquiry (2020) that found "credible information" of 39 unlawful killings by Australian special forces personnel, with 25 ADF members implicated as perpetrators. Of course withbhos VC Roberts-Smith became the most prominent symbol of these problems.

It could be said that if guilty then the Ben Roberts-Smith's case has hurt the Australian SASR's hard-earned international reputation further.

positive comments fellas - glad we in Oz and we're close to the ocean - maybe not you guys.

How it should be. While industry uses a lot of fuel, people should walk, bike and use public transport where possible to see any sort of dent to the petrol stations. I fear it wouldn't be enough given the vast distances a lot of people drive.
