I think the best way to do that at first is so focus on the Matildas who do play in the A-League, or to remind players that Matildas are born in the A-League. Even if a fifth of Tillies fans went to ALW games we would be in great hands. The APL will have to do a lot more promoting before Matildas fans become ALW supporters.
There needs to be individual player promotion so that they become household names similar to that of Kerr, Fowler, Raso et al. Individual clubs need to be freed from ‘head office’ control in terms of promoting their ‘stars’ so that fans feel much closer to them.
The fact is at the moment the ALW is a burden for the clubs and, seemingly the APL itself.
My main issue is the lack of full professionalism though. We need a fully pro ALW. We’ve got some great players in the ALW and they deserve full contracts before going overseas.
