AFC qualifying thread

With the US on the brink of outright war with Iran, surely it starts to become unlikely that Iran are playing in this World Cup, knowing how Trump operates and his power over Infantino. If that were to occur, and it would not surprise me in the slightest sadly, I wonder who would come in to replace them (assuming someone does)? Perhaps it may be Iraq for example, if they were not to get through the playoffs, as the next best Asia team?

Surely as the aggressor state FIFA would ban the US from participating?

I wonder what they will do with the FIFA peace prize?

I doubt that will happen given how much power and influence the Americans have, and it will be very difficult for them to rescind the FIFA Peace Prize now they've awarded it until they pass on the mantle to someone else next awards cycle.
 
Hypothetically, if Iran has to get replaced - do they just give the spot to Iraq, and give the playoff spot to UAE (and adjust seedings as appropriate for the playoff)?

They'd be more likely to gift a spot to Israel I reckon... just because.

Any country that participates in the World CUP IF Iran isnt allowed to play should be shunned and kicked out of FIFA immediately.

103 days out from WC and literally at war with the primary host country. I sadly can't imagine how Iran take part in this WC.
 
I wonder who they’ll replace with. Surely it’s too late to replace Iraq in the playoffs - maybe Iraq gets Iran’s spot, and the original playoff to face them becomes a final playoff to qualify?

According to that article, Iraq replaces Iran and UAE will go to the playoff.

I mean… he has a point. I watched a Zealandism video on this, and FIFA should be having a bigger backbone on this. Trump shouldn’t be doing tweets like he did after that though..

The example that was cited in this video was (and yes, it was 60 years ago) that England wanted North Korea to pull out of the 1966 World Cup because England didn’t recognise them. FIFA said that either you let them in, or we move the tournament.

Granted, this time is a little different…
