England has this obsession that the England manager needs to be English, but they have not produced a quality one in ages. Even Southgate who had relative success was far too conservative when it mattered.England just can't seem to produce quality managers. No Englishman has ever won the Premier League as a manager since it was created in 1992. The last English manager to win the First Division was ironically in 1991–92 though: Howard Wilkinson with Leeds United.
That won't change this season either: Mikel Arteta, Pep Guardiola and Unai Emery are all Spanish so it'll pretty much certainly be a Spaniard that wins it. Unless Michael Carrick wins it with Man United in the future that won't change in the next few seasons either.
The rest of Europe loses a semi and they go crazy to fix it. England loses a semi and it's celebrated as an achievement. They won't produce a good manager unless they change their mentality.
