A-League Women/Matildas transfers and delistings

When you think about it it's so anti-competitive that we don't have a January transfer window while the rest of the world just picks us off like vultures. Does the APL want the ALW to succeed?

Yeah it's ridiculous, especially when the men have one. I would kill for an actual goalscorer up front for Sydney, we're solid everywhere else including on the wings but that one position (plus midfield without Indi dos Santos) is fucking our entire season up once again.

Welcome to the forum! I agree that the A-League Women is at a disadvantage compared to the rest of the world by not having a January transfer window but I'd say because the transfer window at the start of the season runs through Christmas then APL thinks there's no point in having one in January, but surely they could extend the window until February and move the April-May transfer window to June to align it more with the European leagues.

Annalise Rasmussen has been transferred from Central Coast Mariners to Juventus for a women's club record fee which also sits in the top five transfer fees in A-League Women history. She'll be under contract through the end of season 2027-28 and becomes the first Australian player ever at the club.
Raz is going sooner than I expected but she certainly has the talent to make it overseas.
She will be in the next crop of Matildas along with Izzy Gomez who I expect to move abroad at season’s end if not before.

Yeah definitely way sooner than I thought. I thought she’d surely spend the rest of the season at Mariners and try for the Golden Boot.

Roma vs Juventus is now way more exciting from an Aussie perspective. Wini Heatley at the back for Roma vs Annalise Rasmussen up front for Juve. I expect her to start off as a sub though as Juve have some good attackers like Cristiana Girelli (who's 35 so maybe they're planning for her retirement).

This better not end up like Sharn Freier at Wolfsburg or Sarah Hunter at Paris FC or Charlotte McLean at NC Courage.

I think Annalise Rasmussen getting a Matildas callup is inevitable, whether that be as part of the Women's Asian Cup 26-player list or in the April international window as she already has international and big game experience with the under-23 Matildas and no doubt she'll be making waves at Juventus as soon as she's registered on their playing list and getting game time for them.

She needs to be capped soon like we did with Daniela Galić (who was also eligible for Croatia). She's eligible for the Cook Islands and South Africa and with South Africa having won AFCON before but lacking players playing in Europe (and would possibly use her to say "hey, we have White players too") and the Cook Islands being shit at football a player like her would be a gift so we have to cap her.

Letting Vesna Milivojević go to Serbia was a grave mistake that we should be deeply ashamed of. Bianca Galić to Croatia or Stacey Papadopoulos to Greece wasn't much of a worry though as neither were ever being Matildas, and it's unlikely Emma Ilijoski will either so maybe North Macedonia should cap her.

Alana Murphy has moved to Nottingham Forest.
Did see this! Forest looking for promotion so could be good for her.

Leia Varley has secured a transfer from Brisbane Roar to 1. FC Nurnberg in the Frauen-Bundesliga for a significant undisclosed fee on German transfer deadline day, effective immediately. The move comes after she made 30 appearances for the club since joining ahead of A-League Women season 2024-25.
Nuremberg will be looking to stay up (though they're pretty far off going down) so this could also be good. They've conceded the second most goals in the league (40 in 16) so a quality CB like her should strengthen their squad.

The transfer window has now shut in all the Big Five European leagues, with a list of Matildas and A-League Women players securing moves on deadline day in their respective destination or originating leagues as follows:
  • Annalise Rasmussen — Central Coast Mariners to Juventus
  • Alana Murphy — SC Sand to Nottingham Forest
  • Leia Varley — Brisbane Roar to 1. FC Nurnberg
If I've missed anyone out or gotten any details incorrect please let me know and I'll update the list accordingly. Some transfers may not be announced until after the transfer window has closed so this is still subject to change, but it's safe to say that Holly McNamara and Izzy Gomez will be staying put through season's end.

Aussie-born Filipina international Angie Beard has rejoined Brisbane Roar from AIK Stockholm.

Angie Beard under contract at Brisbane Roar through season's end and will act as a like-for-like replacement for Leia Varley following the latter's transfer to 1. FC Nurnberg earlier in the week.
