Australian Dual Nationals 🇦🇺🏳️

Going back to Volpato - I think there are a number of scenarios where he chooses Australia.

First up - his preference is pretty much Italy - but Circati is in his ear are pushing him towards australia. Secondly he wants to play at the highest level.

Come March - one of two things happens, Italy wins and makes the World Cup, or they lose and don't. Does he wait four more years?

Assuming they win. They are still a pretty good team with obvious players in front of him and other up and comers in front of him. He is unlikely to make the squad. If they do well - especially the players and the youth in front of him the outlook may look grim for a few years. Australia has the Asian Cup in 2027 where he could play an important role almost immediately - does he make the jump then.

If he does decide to play for the Socceroos he is a very talented player and will surely be motivated. If he doesn't good luck to him but I can't see him in a major tournament for Italy for years.

I think a bit differently to you. It's pretty clear to me that we are his second choice. Even if he makes himself available after he can't make Italy's team I doubt he will ever be motivated when playing for us. I can't see that being a good long term proposition for either Volpato or our national team. I would be happy to have him prove me wrong, but I can't see that happening.

Some dual-national players we could see feature for the u17's this year
  • Max Lyall-Rajendra (2009) plays for Watford u18 as a 16 year old ( ENG / AUS )
  • Anton Mitchell (2009) 6’6 GK playing for Cagliari u18 ( DEN / AUS )

Josh Sotirio might debut at 10:30pm today when Hougang United travel away to Balestier Khalsa.

Cristian Volpato wasn't in the squad for Sassuolo in their 1–0 away loss to Napoli.

Volpato has been injured for a few weeks and looks like he’s coming back at the end of January, at the earliest. He was in good form prior to the injury.

He's just not at the level for the Azzurri, really don't understand the thought process sitting out multiple WC's.
Yeah I agree it's pretty damn clear he'll never be an Azzurro, but he could absolutely be a Socceroo.

Not Azzurri quality though. Federico Chiesa can barely get minutes for Italy and he's at Liverpool. No way a Sassuolo player gets in over a Liverpool player.

Josh Sotirio started but was subbed off for Hougang United on his debut in a 3–2 away comeback win (from 2–0 down) over Balestier Khalsa in the SPL.
